Job summary

VSV WINS INC is seeking an Ammonia Refrigeration Technician in Sterling, VA to operate, test and repair ammonia refrigeration systems and related equipment. The role requires 2+ years of ammonia refrigeration experience in a food manufacturing setting and current GCAP/RETA and EPA Type II certifications.

Responsibilities include maintenance, test runs, pump-downs, and ensuring safety compliance per GMP/PSM standards.

Qualifications

• 2+ years ammonia refrigeration experience in industrial refrigeration and food manufacturing environments.
• Ammonia Certification from GCAP or RETA.
• EPA Type II Certification.
• Ability to pass respirator fit test and pulmonary function test.
• Ability to complete a 24-hour Hazmat class.
• Strong knowledge of ammonia refrigeration systems, utilities and related equipment.

Responsibilities

• Operate, test, troubleshoot and repair ammonia refrigeration systems, subsystems and auxiliary equipment.
• Perform planned maintenance on ammonia refrigeration and utility systems.
• Operate and maintain spiral freezers.
• Perform ammonia system pump-downs for repairs/replacements of components.
• Conduct daily rounds and inspections of ammonia system temperatures and conditions.
• Perform chemical testing on boilers and condenser towers.
• Troubleshoot and maintain boiler, hot water, domestic cold water, compressed air, electrical and electronic systems.
• Maintain refrigeration and utility rooms according to safety and maintenance standards.
• Complete work orders, PSM documentation, refrigeration records and operating notes.
• Follow Safety, LOTO, GMP, SOP and PSM requirements.
• Work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Perform other duties assigned by Maintenance/Refrigeration Manager.
