Jobot is seeking an experienced Ammonia Systems Manager to oversee the safe, compliant operation of our industrial refrigeration systems in Vernon, California. This role requires leadership of two‑stage ammonia platforms and related equipment within a regulated food manufacturing setting.

You will manage preventive maintenance, regulatory inspections, emergency response planning, and contractor oversight, while driving continuous improvements to safety, reliability, and food safety compliance.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of industrial ammonia refrigeration experience.
• Experience managing or leading ammonia refrigeration programs in an industrial environment.
• Strong understanding of two-stage ammonia systems.
• Experience operating and troubleshooting ammonia compressors.
• Experience with systems containing less than 10,000 lbs of ammonia.
• Working knowledge of OSHA PSM and EPA RMP requirements.
• Experience participating in or managing mechanical integrity programs.
• Knowledge of refrigeration controls, valves, compressors, vessels, and safety devices.
• Experience developing PM programs and troubleshooting refrigeration issues.
• Ability to manage regulatory inspections and audits.

Responsibilities

• Manage the daily operation, maintenance, and optimization of ammonia refrigeration systems.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA PSM, EPA RMP, CalARP, and local regulatory requirements.
• Lead mechanical integrity, preventive maintenance, and reliability programs.
• Oversee ammonia compressors, condensers, evaporators, vessels, pumps, and refrigeration controls.
• Develop and maintain emergency response procedures and training programs.
• Coordinate inspections, audits, and regulatory reporting activities.
• Manage outside contractors and refrigeration service providers.
• Troubleshoot refrigeration issues and implement corrective actions.
• Maintain refrigeration documentation, SOPs, P&IDs, and operating procedures.
• Support capital projects, system upgrades, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with food safety and USDA requirements.
• Provide leadership to refrigeration operators and maintenance personnel.

Job Details

We are seeking an experienced Ammonia Systems Manager to oversee the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of our industrial refrigeration systems. This individual will be responsible for managing all aspects of ammonia refrigeration, regulatory compliance, preventive maintenance, contractor oversight, emergency response planning, and continuous improvement initiatives within a food manufacturing environment.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience operating and maintaining two-stage ammonia refrigeration systems, ammonia compressors, and facilities regulated under CalARP/PSM programs.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the daily operation, maintenance, and optimization of ammonia refrigeration systems.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA PSM, EPA RMP, CalARP, and local regulatory requirements.
• Lead mechanical integrity, preventive maintenance, and reliability programs.
• Oversee ammonia compressors, condensers, evaporators, vessels, pumps, and refrigeration controls.
• Develop and maintain emergency response procedures and training programs.
• Coordinate inspections, audits, and regulatory reporting activities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in the City of Vernon or similar heavily regulated environments.
• Experience with Freon systems (R-22, R-404A, R-407A, R-422A, R-507, R-134a, or similar refrigerants).

RETA Certification

• CARO (Certified Assistant Refrigeration Operator)
• CIRO (Certified Industrial Refrigeration Operator)
• CRST (Certified Refrigeration Service Technician)
• CRES (Certified Refrigeration Energy Specialist)
• Provisional or Certified Refrigeration Technician
• GCAP certifications are also highly desirable.
• IIAR training and certifications preferred.
