Job summary

Conservation Legacy is seeking a Crew Member for the Cumberland Trail Crew AmeriCorps program based in Chattanooga, TN. The role involves heavy outdoor labor, camping, and working on the Cumberland Trail segment projects under SECC supervision.

Crew members hike to remote sites, operate in all weather, and uphold safety. The term runs Jan 25–Apr 30, 2027, with a 9-day hitch cycle and shared lodging arrangements where applicable.

Qualifications

• United States citizen, United States national, or a lawful permanent resident status.
• Between the ages of 18-30 (or up to age 35 for veterans).
• Has received a high school diploma or equivalency certificate; or has not dropped out of school to enroll as an AmeriCorps participant, and agrees to obtain a diploma prior to using the education award.
• Agrees to provide information to establish eligibility and to complete a National Service Criminal History Check.
• General comfort with or prior experience in outdoor environments.
• Ability to quickly acquire and learn new skills and techniques.
• Ability to cooperate in a team with varied skills, abilities, and perspectives.
• Willing to spend long days in challenging environments.

Responsibilities

• Perform heavy manual labor on conservation and restoration projects.
• Camp overnight and serve outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Maintain equipment and safety as a top priority.
• Hike to remote project sites while carrying gear.
• Contribute to trail construction and maintenance, corridor cleaning, and invasive species removal.
