Schedule: Full‑Time, 40 hours/week (10:00 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.)

United Way of Utah County’s Community Centers foster connectedness and self‑efficacy within our communities. With three locations—Provo (South Franklin), American Fork, and Payson—our centers provide a welcoming space for individuals and families to learn, grow, and connect. We collaborate with volunteers and partners to offer a wide range of free classes and activities, including Playgroups, Art Therapy, Board Game Club, Homework Help, Reading Club, and adult classes such as Yoga, English as a Second Language (ESL), Spanish, and Computer Literacy.

Position Description

The Community Center Coordinator supports the operations and programming of the American Fork Community Center. The role manages volunteers and interns, engages with community members, coordinates programs and events, and ensures the smooth and safe functioning of the center. The position works full‑time during daytime hours with occasional extended hours for special events. The coordinator reports to the Community Centers’ Director and collaborates on shared tasks, events, and center‑wide priorities. Ideal candidates are leaders who enjoy building relationships, are visible in the community, create a welcoming atmosphere, and are excited to help grow the center through collaboration, innovation, and strong partnerships.

Position Responsibilities
  • Volunteer Management:
    • Conduct volunteer outreach and onboarding.
    • Coordinate with Y‑Serve program director regarding volunteers.
    • Ensure volunteers register and log hours accurately.
    • Maintain ongoing communication with volunteers.
    • Collaborate with other centers’ coordinators to plan volunteer appreciation.
    • Keep volunteer records current in the database.
  • Intern Management:
    • Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and training of interns.
    • Create intern schedules and assign class responsibilities.
    • Conduct weekly check‑ins with each intern.
    • Provide oversight and feedback on intern projects.
    • Ensure interns log hours.
    • Participate in intern orientation and appreciation planning.
    • Delegate daily cleanup duties to interns.
  • Growth and Community Partnerships:
    • Help implement the center’s vision for continued growth.
    • Assist in expanding programs and services that respond to community needs.
    • Build and maintain relationships with school administrators, teachers, counselors, and district staff.
    • Maintain relationships with key partners: Texas Instruments, Intermountain Healthcare, American Fork City, and Chamber of Commerce.
    • Develop partnerships with local businesses, nonprofits, and community organizations.
    • Support donor visits, grant reporting, and community presentations as needed.
    • Represent the Community Center in collaborative meetings and community events.
  • Community Engagement:
    • Create a welcoming, safe, inclusive, and family‑centered environment.
    • Develop meaningful relationships with children, parents, volunteers, community leaders, and partner organizations.
    • Build trust with families through consistent communication and follow‑up.
    • Represent United Way in community meetings, networking events, school activities, and gatherings.
    • Strengthen partnerships with the Alpine School District, local schools, city staff, nonprofits, and other stakeholders.
    • Identify opportunities to expand community engagement and increase participation.
    • Help cultivate new partnerships that support programming, volunteer recruitment, and long‑term sustainability.
  • Program Coordination:
    • Oversee interns’ daily program support tasks (e.g., snack distribution, class reminders).
    • Plan and coordinate evening events (e.g., Digital Inclusion Graduation, Community Cafes).
    • Manage the private music lessons program.
    • Oversee the Parent Leadership Council on monthly Community Cafes.
    • Assist with large event planning (e.g., Halloween, Christmas, Music Recital).
    • Attend and support all center events.
    • Contribute to semester planning and program scheduling.
  • Data and Records:
    • Ensure all program participants and volunteers are registered and tracked.
    • Work with interns to accurately record attendance and volunteer hours.
    • Track snack distribution and ensure sign‑off procedures.
    • Take and post program photos/videos and live social media updates.
    • Gather volunteer/participant stories for reporting and outreach.
