The role of the Ambulatory Surgery Associate involves multi-skilled tasks, tying Materials Management to Surgical Support functions that are critical to patient care. Areas of support include: Temple & Shoreline Endoscopy, Womens, Temple & Shoreline Surgical Centers, and other YNHH-ASD areas, as required. Duties include, but are not limited to, set-up and turn-over of surgical rooms, re-stocking supplies, picking supplies needed for cases from inventory, the movement and transfer of YNHH ASD patients, and the transport of Stat Lab specimens to the YNHH campus for Pathological determination and diagnosis. The position requires that the individual also performs infection controls tasks, such as cleaning and disinfecting of surgical rooms, handling and properly disposing of bio-waste, sharps and trash. The multiple duties require the Ambulatory Surgery Associate I to support and float between any of the areas of responsibility described below. The Ambulatory Surgery Associate I is an integral member of the Surgical Team. Responsibilities

• 1. Perform preventative maintenance and equipment storage duties, which contribute to safe, effective, and efficient patient care delivery.
• 1.1 Performs preventive maintenance on surgical equipment, i.e. laparoscopic equipment, gas tanks, bean bags, positioning equipment and tables.
• 2. Assists nursing team by providing patient care.
• 2.1 Transport of specimens to YNHH Lab. Knowledge of proper transport requirements and logging/tracking methods.
• 3. Performs responsibilities which contribute to the efficient operation of the Operating Rooms.
• 3.1 Initiates actions to correct inadequate supplies, faulty equipment, and environment problems and informs Nurse, and Supervisor/Manager.
• 4. Performs duties related to unit supply inventory and picking cases.
• 4.1 Check and placement of unit supplies to par-level each morning for designated areas, and replenish at end of each day.
• 5. Performs duties related to Warehouse
• 5.1 Fill Case Carts; pull case sheets for next day surgery. Pull materials, place in labeled bin, and pick correct custom pack. Deliver STAT items to OR by answering phone promptly, and running supply to the OR.
• 6. Maintains competency in areas of responsibility and participates in unit activities that promote a cohesive team environment.
• 6.1 Complete on-line mandatory continuing education classes as required. Ensure annual PPD is completed.
• 7. Performs other related duties as necessary.
• 7.1 Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) knowledge (i.e. when and where to don PPE, proper procedure for donning & removing, hand hygiene, ensures PPE available for all staff, assist clinicians with donning & disrobing of PPE).

Qualifications

EDUCATION

High School diploma or equivalent required.

Experience

Minimum 1-2 years of related experience required. Experience in customer/patient service, patient care and/or hospital or physician office experience strongly preferred.

Special Skills

High degree of communication skills with all levels of staff (clinical and non-clinical staff). Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and demanding healthcare environment. Must be able to function both independently and as a team player. Strong prioritization skills and ability to multi-task. Beginner level computer skills, familiarity with Windows based environment. CPR certified preferred. Position requires minimum full-time commitment of 6-months for orientation purposes.

PHYSICAL DEMAND

Physical ability to work on feet for prolonged periods of time. Capability of lifting, pushing, pulling heavy equipment and transferring/lifting of patients and materials. Ability to lift 20-50 lbs.
