Job summary
UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas seeks a dedicated registered nurse to provide nursing care under supervision in the treatment of patients. The role includes coordinating care, educating patients, and ensuring documentation accuracy within the electronic medical record system.

Qualifications
- Graduate of an approved/accredited nursing program with an ADN.
- Licensure as Registered Nurse by State Board of Examiners for State of Texas upon hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by AHA/ARC upon hire.
Responsibilities
- Delivers nursing interventions to assigned patients that are consistent with the medical plan of care.
- Schedules patients' appointments, tests, and procedures; reinforces physician instructions.
- Provides patient education and documents responses in the medical record.
- Ensures appropriate patient consents for research and/or medical treatment.
- Triages patient phone inquiries and documents actions in medical records.
- Supervises licensed vocational nurses and support staff as needed.
- Maintains proficiency in electronic medical record documentation.
- Prepares equipment and assists physicians during exams and procedures.

This position works under general supervision of physician, mid-level provider and/or nursing supervisor to provide nursing services in care and treatment of patients.

- Education Graduate of an approved/accredited nursing program with an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

- Education Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
- Experience 1 year of clinical experience
- Delivers nursing interventions to assigned patients that are consistent with stated medical plan of care utilizing the nursing process to assess, implement, and record patients' response in the medical record.
- Schedules patients' appointments, tests, and procedures via on‑line computer system or telephone, and reinforces physician instructions in person and through telephone contact.
- Provides patient education and documents patient's response in medical record.
- Ensures appropriate patient consents and authorizations are obtained for research and/or medical treatment.
- Triages patient phone inquiries according to physician and/or departmental protocols and documents such actions in patients' medical records.
- Provides working supervision and delegates tasks to licensed vocational nurses, non‑licensed medical staff, or office support personnel.
- Proficiency in electronic medical record documentation.
- Participates in the recommendation of policy and/or procedural changes according to nursing expertise.
- Prepares equipment and assists physicians during physical exams and medical procedures.
- Prepares and administers medications as prescribed by physician.
- Inspects equipment and facilities visually and physically to ensure patient safety and proper functioning of equipment.
- Maintains adequate stock of supplies as required for work area.
- Attends and participates in meetings related to clinical activities.
- Duties performed may include one or more of the following core functions:
- Directly interacting with or caring for patients;
- Directly interacting with or caring for human‑subjects research participants;
- Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting patient records (including patient financial records); or
- Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting human‑subjects research records.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code 51.215, which authorizes UT Southwestern to obtain criminal history record information. To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 113.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.
