Job summary

UMass Memorial Health seeks an Ambulatory Administrative Specialist to support patients with routine and urgent appointments in an ambulatory setting. You will assist with financial counseling, interpreter services, and referrals, ensuring smooth scheduling and communication with clinicians and insurers.

The role requires a high school diploma (an Associate’s/Bachelor’s degree is preferred) and at least 3 years of related experience.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 3 years of related experience; waiver if degree.
  • Ability to use specialized applications software and computer systems.
  • Multifunctional and able to work under stressful situations.
  • Exemplary professional behavior and strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Greets visitors and patients for scheduled/urgent appointments.
  • Verifies patient demographic and insurance information.
  • Collects co-payments when applicable.
  • Obtains consent signatures for treatment and billing.
  • Assists with pre-authorization and referrals with insurers as needed.
  • Receives and directs phone calls; routes messages to clinicians.
  • Schedules urgent care appointments and multi-provider treatments.
  • Maintains accurate records, charges, and related information.
