Job summary

Parkland Health and Hospital System (PHHS) seeks a Medical Assistant for the Ambulatory Surgery Center. The role supports physicians, nurses and staff by performing administrative and clinical tasks, including vital signs, specimen collection, and patient prep.

The candidate must complete an accredited Medical Assistant program and hold or obtain within 90 days a current BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.

Qualifications

  • Completed training through an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Current BLS for Healthcare Providers certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Demonstrates basic patient care skills and uses supplies/equipment properly.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families and PHHS staff.

Responsibilities

  • Administrative: review daily appointment schedule, obtain records, handle referrals and prior authorizations, and maintain forms.
  • Clinical: prepare patients for visits, ensure rooms are clean and stocked, assist with procedures and specimen collection.
  • Infection control: adhere to guidelines and Joint Commission safety policies; monitor safety and quality standards.
  • Professional development: participate in training and team activities; may cross-cover and travel to other locations as assigned.
