Job summary

National Jewish Health is seeking an Ambulatory Medical Assistant to join our Denver clinic. Under supervision by licensed professionals, you will support patient flow, document vital signs and history in the EHR, and assist clinicians during exams and procedures.

You may administer immunizations under state rules and collect specimens for lab work. You will also manage patient education, triage in-basket messages, and keep exam rooms sterile and well-stocked.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and completion of a Medical Assistant program or EMT program or a Bachelor's degree in a related health field.
  • CPR/BLS certification is required.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate patient rooming and collect health information including vital signs, medical history and immunization status; document in the EHR.
  • Assist providers during exams and procedures; ensure necessary supplies are available; prepare patients for exams and administer immunizations under supervision as allowed by state law.
  • Collect, label and prepare laboratory specimens (blood, urine) per clinic protocols and safety standards.
  • Educate patients on treatment plans, medications and follow-up care; coordinate care with providers.
  • Monitor and manage in-basket messaging for triage and communication between patients and staff.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of exam rooms and medical equipment; ensure proper sterilization and restocking.
  • Provide support for referrals, patient records management and other clerical duties as needed.

Education

Position Summary

Under the direct clinical support and supervision of a licensed professional, the Ambulatory Medical Assistant promotes efficient, high quality clinical practice by providing guidance through collaborating with the team to manage patient flow and communication, deliver safe and appropriate patient care within the scope of practice and established policies and procedures.

  • Patient Intake and Documentation: Facilitate the rooming of patients and gather pertinent health information, including vital signs, medical history, current medications, and immunization status. Accurately document all information in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Clinical Assistance: Assist healthcare providers during patient exams and procedures, ensuring that necessary supplies are available. Prepare patients for exams and administer immunizations or injections under supervision, as permitted by state regulations.
  • Specimen Collection and Lab Work: Collect, label, and prepare laboratory specimens such as blood or urine for analysis, adhering to clinic protocols and safety standards.
  • Patient Education: Provide patients with clear instructions regarding treatment plans, medication management, and follow-up care. Act as a liaison between patients and providers to relay information and coordinate care.
  • In-Basket Messaging Management: Monitor and manage in-basket messaging, including triaging, routing, and responding to messages from patients, providers, and staff to support efficient clinic workflow and communication.
  • Equipment and Room Maintenance: Maintain cleanliness and organization in exam rooms and medical equipment. Ensure proper sterilization of instruments and restocking of medical supplies as needed.
  • Administrative Support: Assist with handling referrals, managing patient records, and performing other clerical duties that contribute to the smooth functioning of the clinic.
Other Duties
  • May utilize point of care instruments, such as the ISTAT, Piccolo, glucometer, etc.
  • May perform electrocardiograms (EKGs), ENO, Spirometry or other diagnostic tests on patients as directed, processes and files patient charts, and monitors procedure activity under supervision.
  • May participate in quality assurance and improvement activities on an ongoing basis and assist with preparation for regulatory surveys
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma or GED and graduation from a Medical Assistant program or EMT program required. -OR- Bachelor’s degree in a health or science-related field such as Health Sciences, Biology, Human Biology, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Biomedical Sciences, or Public Health.
  • Work Experience: None required. Relevant clinical, internship, externship, or patient-facing experience preferred.
  • Special Training, Certification or Licensure: CPR/BLS required.

Salary Range: $20.69 - $27.36
