Job summary

Great Northern Docks, Inc. in Naples, Maine, is seeking a dedicated Aluminum Welder for our family-owned fabrication shop. The role focuses on fabricating and assembling aluminum dock components using MIG welding, reading shop drawings, and ensuring precise dimensions.

Great Northern Docks, Inc. is a third-generation, family-owned manufacturer of premium aluminum dock systems and waterfront access products based in Naples, Maine. Since 1979, the company has designed and built durable residential and commercial dock solutions focused on long-term performance, seasonal installation, and ease of use. Its products are used in freshwater and saltwater environments across lakes, rivers, and coastal waterfronts. Great Northern Docks serves homeowners, contractors, campgrounds, marinas, and municipalities throughout the Northeast and beyond with aluminum dock systems, gangways, ramps, outdoor stairs, footbridges, boardwalks, hardware, and marine accessories.

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Aluminum Welder position located in Naples, Maine. The Aluminum Welder will fabricate and assemble aluminum dock components and waterfront access products, primarily using aluminum MIG welding processes.

Responsibilities include reading and interpreting shop drawings and fabrication specifications; setting up and verifying the proper operation of welding equipment; inspecting materials and verifying dimensions prior to fabrication; and marking components for trimming or adjustment when needed. The Aluminum Welder will fit, align, and assemble components using fixtures and jigs while maintaining required dimensions, squareness, and consistent weld quality.

The role also includes inspecting completed welds and assemblies for quality and dimensional accuracy, brushing or grinding welds and components as required, and working efficiently with the production team to meet manufacturing schedules. The Aluminum Welder will assist with material handling, maintain a safe and organized work area, and contribute to continuous improvement of fabrication processes.

Required Qualifications
  • Knowledge of, or experience with MIG welding and metal fabrication, with the ability to produce consistent, high-quality welds.
  • Ability to accurately fit, align, and assemble fabricated components using fixtures and jigs while maintaining required dimensions and squareness.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, shop drawings, and fabrication specifications.
  • Ability to accurately measure components, verify material dimensions and cut lengths, and identify or mark material requiring adjustment or trimming.
  • Working knowledge of safe welding and fabrication practices.
  • Understanding of material preparation, handling, and fabrication practices, particularly for aluminum.
  • Ability to follow work instructions, shop drawings, and direction from production leadership.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to consistent workmanship and product quality.
  • Ability to work effectively in a production environment while maintaining quality and meeting manufacturing schedules.
  • Capability to lift and move materials, stand for extended periods, and safely operate common welding and fabrication tools and equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous aluminum MIG welding and fabrication experience.
  • Experience fabricating plain steel and/or stainless steel components.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing, metal fabrication, marine, or construction environment.
  • Vocational or technical training in welding or metal fabrication.
