Morgan Stanley Investment Management (MSIM) seeks a Senior Associate within the Global Risk & Analysis Group in New York to conduct research and analysis of multi-asset funds and related markets.

You will measure risk, develop macro scenarios, run quality checks on risk data, and collaborate with IT to improve data processes; prior experience in asset management and strong communication are valued.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in business, finance, mathematics or related quantitative field.
  • Ideally 4–6 years of experience in asset management with multi-asset and alternatives.
  • CFA or graduate degree is a plus.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Experience with SQL, Python or R is a plus.
  • Familiarity with market data and risk tools (Aladdin, SunGard APT, Barra Portfolio Manager, BarraOne, Bloomberg).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; team player and self-starter.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze MSIM’s multi-asset funds and related markets (equity, fixed income, commodities, FX, derivatives, hedge funds).
  • Measure and communicate risk to Portfolio Management Teams, Firm Management, clients and regulators.
  • Research and interpret macroeconomic and historical stress scenarios for multi-asset funds.
  • Perform quality control checks of derivatives securities and ex-ante risk data in Aladdin.
  • Use market, risk, and performance tools daily (Aladdin, APT, Barra PM, Bloomberg).
  • Collaborate with other risk teams to enhance MSIM’s risk management platform.
  • Calculate ESG risk metrics including carbon emissions and climate scenarios and screen for controversies.
  • Work with IT to build and improve data and processes for the risk team.

WE OFFER
  • The Global Risk & Analysis Group (GRA) team offers the opportunity to identify, assess, manage and monitor risk across MSIM, and provide research/analysis and reporting for clients, regulators, Portfolio Management Teams, Firm Management, and other internal teams.
  • This member of GRA will be based in New York and responsible for analysis, research and delivery of certain Multi‑Asset & Alternatives risk‑focused projects. In addition, the Senior Associate will perform data analysis, aggregation and reporting.
YOU WILL
  • Work as a key member of the Multi‑Asset & Alternatives Risk team to conduct research and analysis of MSIM’s actively managed multi‑asset funds and the overall global equity, fixed income, commodities, FX, derivatives and hedge fund markets.
  • Measure, identify, and communicate risks of actively managed multi‑asset funds to various parties, such as Portfolio Management Teams, Firm Management, clients, regulators, and other internal teams.
  • Research, construct, apply, and interpret macroeconomic and historical stress scenarios as they relate to actively managed multi‑asset funds.
  • Lead regular quality control checks of derivatives securities and ex‑ante risk data in Aladdin.
  • Use market, risk, and performance tools such as Aladdin, FIS APT, Barra Portfolio Manager, Bloomberg on a daily basis.
  • Work closely with other investment risk management teams (equity, fixed income, liquidity, cross‑investment) to expand and optimize MSIM’s risk management platform.
  • Calculate ESG risk metrics including portfolio carbon emissions and climate scenario analysis and conduct screenings for ESG controversy flags and business involvements.
  • Collaborate with I.T. Team to build and improve data and processes which are critical to the Multi‑Asset & Alternatives Risk Team.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • An undergraduate degree in business, finance, mathematics or other related quantitative field.
  • Ideally 4 to 6 years of experience; previous experience in the asset management industry working with multi‑asset and alternatives strategies is strongly preferred.
  • CFA or graduate degree is a plus.
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Experience using SQL, Python or R is a plus.
  • Familiarity with market data and risk tools (e.g. Aladdin, SunGard APT, Barra Portfolio Manager, BarraOne, Bloomberg).
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly motivated and enthusiastic self‑starter.
  • Team‑player mentality, with the ability to work independently when necessary.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments at once and meet associated deadlines.
BENEFITS

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $110,000 and $130,000 per year at the commencement of employment. The base pay is determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short‑ and long‑term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley‑sponsored benefit programs.
