Position Overview

Clothing tailors or seamsters are needed to alter in-store pant purchases according to custom specifications and needs. In this position, the Alterations Specialist will use their knowledge of fabrics, sewing, fit, and the marketplace to alter pants for customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Alter hems of customer pant purchases with industrial sewing machines (straight stitch and blind hem machines).
• Measure, cut and sew hems following pins/markings in accordance with alteration ticket specifications.
• Trim excess threads using scissors and use irons to press hems of pants and finished garments upon completion.
• Inspect altered, and pressed garments to ensure they meet pristine brand standards before final delivery, including inspection of leftover pins, and broken needles using needle detector.
• Working knowledge of sewing machines such as lock stitch, blind stitch, and serge machines.
• Manage sewing supplies and communicate replenishment needs with management.
• Maintain brand and operational standards of tailoring zone (visual, cleanliness, etc.).
• Safely operate industry-standard sewing machines, irons, and cutting tools.
• Be knowledgeable of fitting room standards and assist when needed.
• Act as cashier when required by following cashier protocol.
• Process shipment and ensure all merchandise is represented on the floor in full size runs.
• Assist management to identify and resolve issues in the store.
• Provide product and brand knowledge to customers.
• Follow all company policy and procedures & notify management of any infractions.
• Assist with special projects as assigned by management.

Required Skills and Abilities

• Sewing machine proficiency (straight stitch and blind stitch machine).
• Hand-stitching experience.
• Strong attention to detail and quality.
• Ability to work independently and mange daily priorities.
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts and percentages.
• Ability to stand for long periods of time, read computer terminals, push, pull, move, lift or carry objects of at least 25 pounds.
• Ability to effectively maneuver around sales floor and stockroom, repetitive bending, prolonged standing, twisting, stooping, squatting, and climbing.

Qualifications

• At least six (6) months prior sewing/fitting experience in an alterations or tailoring department.
• Maintain specified productivity guidelines.
• Strong communication skills, fluency in English mandatory.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule that meets the business needs, including evenings and weekends.

Education/Experience

• High School Diploma or G.E.D., or 6 months of retail or related experience.

Full-Time Availability Requirements

• Open availability (Saturday and Sunday are required)

Salary range: $23.00/hour - $25.00/hour*
