Job summary

MedStar Health in Clinton, Maryland is seeking an ALS Paramedic to medically support transport patients between facilities. You will work closely with EMTs and Critical Care nurses to provide expert transport care, with a focus on patient-centered outcomes and safety.

Qualified candidates must hold NREMT-Paramedic and MD Paramedic Licensure, with 1–2 years of NR Paramedic experience preferred. A limited-time $8,000 sign-on bonus is available and orientation includes comprehensive credentialing

Qualifications

• Must be an NREMT-Paramedic with Maryland Licensure or eligibility.
• 1–2 years of NR paramedic experience preferred.
• Successful completion of an approved EMT-Paramedic course and approved EV driving course before orientation release.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care during inter-facility transports and emergency responses.
• Document patient information accurately in medical records and communicate clearly with team members.
• Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment for patients and families during transport.
• Administer and monitor pharmacologic agents and IV fluids as needed.
• Collaborate with medical control physicians for complex transport cases.
• Participate in program safety initiatives and department meetings.

General Summary of Position

Join our ground transport team in Clinton, Maryland as an ALS Paramedic where you’ll medically support and care for transport patients to other medical/hospital facilities working closely with EMT's and Critical Care nurses.

To be considered, candidates must have NREMT - P, MD Paramedic License and a minimum of one year experience.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies procedures quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
• Based on assessment of physical emotional bio-physical and spiritual needs provides direct patient care and evaluates outcomes. Incorporates the principles of patient-centered care.
• Communicates patient's clinical information clearly and accurately in verbal and written format. Clearly and accurately documents pertinent information in the patient's medical record. Consistently demonstrates effective documentation practices and develops strategies to ensure complete documentation of patient care.
• Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment of caring for patients and families. Provides basic patient comfort measures during procedures. When necessary provides environmental support to expedite timely patient admission or transfer. Identifies and acts upon opportunities to improve the environment of care.
• Provides for the emotional support of patients and families during the crisis of illness. Demonstrates patient/family advocacy.
• Delivers expert paramedic care in ambulances to multiple patient types to include adult subspecialties and pediatrics.
• Collaborates with on line medical control physicians to manage the patient care of complex patients in transport.
• Participates in the orientation program for new staff.
• As part of the program's safety management system provides feedback and participates in program safety initiatives.
• Participates in MedSTAR Transport safety program.
• Administers and maintains pharmacologic agents and intravenous fluids during inter hospital transports.
• Ensures safe operations during ambulance related activities in coordination with the Emergency Vehicle Operator.
• Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts.
• Participates in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.

Minimal Qualifications

Education

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Successful completion of an approved EMT-Paramedic course required
• Completion of an approved emergency vehicle driving course prior to release from orientation required

Experience

• 1-2 years experience as a National Registry Paramedic (NRP) preferred

Licenses and Certifications

• NREMT - National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians-Paramedic required
• Paramedic - Certified in the District of Columbia within 30 Days required
• Paramedic - Licensed in Maryland within 30 Days required
• CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required
• Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.
• Health Services\ACLS required
• Health Services\PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support required
• ATLS - Advanced Trauma Life Support Certification within 180 Days required or
• TPATC - Transport Prof Adv Trauma Crse within 180 Days required or
• PHTLS - Prehospital Trauma Life Support Certification within 180 Days required or
• TNCC - Trauma Nursing Core Course within 180 Days required or
• ATCN - Advanced Trauma Care Nurse Certification within 180 Days required
• NIH Stroke Scale - NIHSS within 90 Days required
• FEMA IC 100 Course (FEMA IS-100.c Introduction to the Incident Command System prior to release from orientation required
• FEMA IC 200 Course FEMA IS-200 IC for Single Resource and Initial Action Incidents prior to release from orientation required
• DL - Valid State Driver's License in good standing
• No more than four points assigned to driver's license and must maintain a satisfactory driving record (no more than four points).
• Completion of approved Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (e.g. CEVO EVOC) prior to release from orientation

This position has a hiring range of : USD $29.43 - USD $48.35 /Hr.
