Job Description
  • The independent feature film Almost Trying is casting a wide range of actors, voice-over talent, musicians, specialty performers, and featured background actors for production in Sevier County, Tennessee, with filming primarily around Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge.
  • This character-driven dramatic comedy follows a Smoky Mountains rideshare driver whose encounters with an unpredictable collection of passengers gradually force him to confront his own relationships, responsibilities, and direction in life. The story combines grounded situational humor with themes of personal growth, avoidance, friendship, guilt, and emotional connection.
  • Production is seeking performers who can bring authenticity and restraint to the material. Southern and Appalachian characters should feel lived-in and believable rather than stereotypical or exaggerated. Tennessee and regional talent are strongly encouraged to submit.
Job Responsibilities
  • Perform assigned principal, supporting, day-player, voice-over, specialty, or featured background roles.
  • Prepare scripted scenes and develop authentic character choices based on the screenplay.
  • Balance comedic timing with grounded, emotionally believable performances.
  • Take direction and collaborate professionally with the director, cast, and production crew.

  • Daisy: Woman, late 20s–mid-30s. Warm, funny, emotionally strong, and perceptive. Authentic Southern/Appalachian accent required. Approximately 4–5 shoot days.
  • Shiloh: Man, late 20s–late 30s. Relaxed, eccentric, loyal, sincere, and naturally funny. Authentic Southern/Appalachian accent required. Approximately 3–4 shoot days.
  • Jolene: Woman, late 20s–mid-30s. Guarded, sharp, darkly funny, and emotionally complex. Southern/Appalachian accent preferred. Must be comfortable portraying simulated hallucinogen use and discussing depression and guilt. Approximately 2 shoot days.
  • Matt: Man, 35–55. Character actor who can move naturally between heightened comedy and genuine emotional moments. One shoot day.
  • Carla Jean: Woman, late 40s–late 50s. Bold, flirtatious, outspoken, and emotionally grounded. Southern/Appalachian accent preferred. Must be comfortable with explicit dialogue. One shoot day.
