Job summary

Conservation Legacy seeks a Zuni Farm Coordinator to provide hands-on leadership, mentorship, and coordination for the Ancestral Lands Farm Corps program in the Zuni community. The role supports Farm Technicians, Fellows, and staff while strengthening community engagement and leadership development.

The primary responsibility is guiding participants in planting, cultivation, harvesting, and stewardship of Indigenous plants, foods, and seeds, with fieldwork and oversight of daily activities,

Qualifications

• At least 2 year of experience in traditional or other farming methods.
• At least 1 year supervisory experience.
• Ability to operate Microsoft Office programs and applications, or similar platforms.
• Valid Driver’s License and Insurable Driving Record per Personnel Policies.
• Ability to pass the organization’s criminal history check requirements.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate Farm Technicians, Farm Fellows, and local crews on Zuni Farm Corps projects.
• Coordinate cultivation, harvesting, processing and distribution of crops and seeds by crews, community members, and project partners.
• Develop a seed inventory database to collect demographic and accomplishment information.
• Assist in Community outreach days, field days, and planting days.
• Review project requests and identify projects that align with ALCC mission, values, and funding sources.
• Conduct site visits to assess project needs, develop project timelines, project specifications, and other project-related needs.
• Collect accomplishment information, including # of community members served, total pounds of produce delivered, total acres maintained or # of community members who attend, etc.
• Compile and prepare project reports for Zuni Farm Corps and In-Community Projects
• Successfully engages, leads, and supports a positive work environment for all within the organization and the communities we serve.

Dates: September 7 , 2026 - December 18, 2026

Wages: $ 22.93 - $ 23.62 per hour, depending on prior experience and certifications, plus overtime

Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps vision is to lead our Nations back to ecological and cultural well-being by engaging underrepresented Indigenous youth and young adults in conservation service programs that reconnect participants to the land while preparing them for careers in cultural and ecological protection. We work to remove barriers to participation, education, and employment by partnering with Tribes, local community organizations, agencies, and institutes of higher learning to create paid service and career training opportunities, personal and professional development, and pathways to postsecondary education and employment. The vision of the Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps Farm Corps is to catalyze a movement to restore our local food systems through agriculture, seed sovereignty, and traditional knowledge. By fostering intergenerational community and intertribal connections between youth and elders, and empowering future generations through mentorship and immersive farmer training, we aim to protect and revitalize our seeds, ensuring the resilience of our cultural and agricultural heritage for generations to come.

The Farm Corps began in 2011 as a summer youth program in Acoma Pueblo, offering participants a hands-on experience in cultivating crops with traditional landrace seeds and flood irrigation farming. Over time, the program has evolved into an immersive experience through core areas, which include ancestral Pueblo agroecological approach to cultivation and land stewardship, the regeneration and rematriation of indigenous landrace seeds, and fostering community and intertribal peer relationships.

Throughout the growing season, participants receive a living stipend while engaging in every stage of cultivation—from soil conservation and regeneration practices, seed-saving techniques, traditional and modern irrigation methods, to seed processing and traditional food preparation. The Ancestral Lands Farm Corps model has expanded to serve the communities of Zuni and Isleta Pueblo.

Our community growing efforts support continuity and resilience by providing seed access and educational resources, rooted in the regeneration of indigenous seeds uniquely adapted to the Southwest's climate, soils, aridity, and agroecological techniques.

PositionSummary:

The Zuni Farm Coordinator provides hands-on leadership, mentorship, and coordination for the Ancestral Lands Farm Corps program in the Zuni community. This position supports Farm Corps Crew Members, Farm Fellows, and Farm Technicians while strengthening community engagement, institutional knowledge, and leadership development among participants. The Farm Coordinator helps align daily farm operations with the overall goals and vision of the Farm Program and contributes to the long-term growth and potential replication of the Ancestral Lands Farm Corps model in other communities.

The primary responsibility of the Zuni Farm Coordinator is guiding and mentoring participants in the planting, cultivation, harvesting, and stewardship of Indigenous plants, foods, and seeds. This role involves consistent fieldwork and oversight of daily farm activities, including irrigation, weed management, harvesting, crop and seed processing, and tool maintenance. The Farm Coordinator supports hands‑on training in seed saving, sustainable agricultural practices, and traditional food and preservation knowledge while ensuring the care and productivity of the farm throughout the growing season.

Outcomes & Functions of Position:

Farm Coordination

• Coordinate Farm Technicians, Farm Fellows, and local crews working on Zuni Farm Corps projects.
• Coordinate cultivation, harvesting, processing and distribution of crops and seeds by crews, community members, and project partners.
• Work with community experts to identify the Zuni Seed Sovereignty Initiative needs.
• Develop a seed inventory database to collect demographic and accomplishment information.
• Work with other ALCC offices to develop future project specifications and logistics for their crews working on the project.

In-Community Project Coordination

• Assist in Community outreach days, field days, and planting days.
• Review project requests and identify projects that align with ALCC mission, values, and funding sources.
• Conduct site visits to assess project needs, develop project timelines, project specifications, and other project-related needs.

Reporting

• Collect accomplishment information, including # of community members served, total pounds of produce delivered, total acres maintained or # of community members who attend, etc.
• Compile and prepare project reports for Zuni Farm Corps and In-Community Projects
