Job summary

Association of Village Council Presidents seeks a Lead Carpenter to direct a crew of 3–4 on rural Alaska residential remodeling projects. Remote Alaska experience is a plus and candidates should be prepared for outdoor work in challenging conditions.

Responsibilities include planning, material takeoffs, foundational work, and performing finish carpentry across multiple trades while coordinating with HR and transportation for staffing. Travel within the region is common.

Qualifications

• Must perform duties satisfactorily in outdoor environments
• Fluency in Yup’ik and English strongly preferred
• Willingness to travel by jet, small plane, boat, four-wheeler, or snow machine
• Provide resume of previous employment with references
• Proficiency with residential construction and PPE knowledge

Responsibilities

• Study job sites, plan work and accurately take off construction material
• Estimate amount of work and time required for job
• Experience building foundations and leveling buildings
• Experience with all phases of residential construction: windows, doors, insulation, sealing, flooring, siding, roofing; finish carpentry and cabinet setting
• Manage materials and supplies to facilitate efficient work progression
• Understand construction logistics in Rural Alaska
• Prepare project labor coding on timesheets
• Coordinate with HR and Transportation to hire supervisors and manage staff
• Interact with the public professionally and maintain good relationships
• Travel frequently within the region for projects
