Job summary

The State of Alaska, Department of Fish and Game, Division of Sport Fish, is seeking a Fish Culturist 1 to operate at the Ruth Burnett Sport Fish Hatchery in Fairbanks. The role covers daily fish culture rounds, water filtration monitoring, stocking, egg takes, and maintaining hatchery infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in fisheries science or related field, or four years of qualified aquaculture experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in fisheries science or a closely related field is required.
• Four years of post-secondary education or work experience substituting for the degree in aquaculture related fields may be accepted.
• Experience in fish culture operations, preferably with cold-water species and/or RAS technologies.
• Experience transporting live fish and operating water filtration systems.
• Attention to detail during routine hatchery tasks and strong problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Conduct daily fish culture rounds for up to 5 species.
• Monitor water filtration systems and ensure hatchery water quality.
• Stock fish into area lakes and assist with egg takes.
• Maintain hatchery infrastructure and equipment.
