Job summary

Communities Unlimited, Inc. seeks a Community Infrastructure State Coordinator for Alabama. The role involves supervising state environmental staff, managing contracts, and delivering technical assistance to rural communities addressing water and wastewater infrastructure needs.

Remote work from Alabama is acceptable with residency required. Ideal candidates have strong knowledge of funding programs, regulatory compliance, and experience in reports and project documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences or related field with 8+ years of experience, plus 1 year supervisory experience.
• Alternative: High School diploma with Water or Wastewater Operator Certification and 12+ years in operating/managing systems, plus 1 year supervisory experience.
• Knowledge of funding programs, regulations and statutes affecting rural water/wastewater systems.
• Experience supervising professional staff and managing state/federal contracts.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and support environmental program staff within the state, including recruitment, onboarding, training and performance management.
• Provide technical assistance to rural communities and water/wastewater utilities addressing operational and regulatory challenges.
• Develop reports, feasibility studies, rate analyses and project documentation for decision making.
• Monitor contract requirements, program goals and service delivery across state activities.
• Build strong relationships with federal/state/local agencies for funding and regulatory partnerships.
• Conduct training and outreach, maintain project records and support organizational initiatives.
