Job summary

ALA in Los Angeles seeks a dedicated Program Coordinator VISTA for the Shared Housing program. The role focuses on matching seniors who own homes with low-income residents, while building robust reporting and outreach infrastructure to expand affordable housing access.

You will design intake and workflow systems, enhance data accuracy, and collaborate with landlords and partners to reduce time-to-placement for stable housing in the Los Angeles area.

Responsibilities

• Develop Reporting and Evaluation Systems - Create reporting tools and evaluation processes that measure housing placements, retention, and participant demographics.
• Build Sustainable Outreach Infrastructure - Develop systems and materials to expand outreach capacity with landlords, home providers, and referral partners.
• Strengthen Shared Housing Systems and Workflows - Design and document efficient workflows for intake, matching, and program coordination. Improve data accuracy, streamline communication, and reduce time to-placement to help more low-income Angelenos achieve stable housing.

ALA Shared Housing Program Coordinator VISTA

ALA's Shared Housing program, established in 1978, has run continuously for 45 years and matched over 2500 individuals in home share arrangements. Shared Housing has been lauded by civic leaders as an effective alternative to traditional affordable housing.The program is intended to match 1) seniors who own their homes, live alone, and wish to remain in their homes instead of institutionalization (a nursing home) with 2) low-income housing seekers (renters) who need affordable rent. Exchanges may be straight rent or a mix of rent plus up to 10 hours a week in light services such as transportation, cooking, or cleaning. Rental arrangements average $700 a month and services arrangements average $200/month plus services.The average duration of each match is 2 years with the longest match at 10+ years. Our eldest participant, Shirley, who is 105 years old, was featured in Vice News' report about ALA's Shared Housing program. Member Duties :
