The Transportation Security Administration is hiring Transportation Security Officers to safeguard travelers at Springfield, IL (SPI). You will work within Security Operations to protect air travelers, airports, and aircraft in a courteous, professional manner.

Responsibilities include operating screening equipment, conducting bag searches, and managing security at terminal entry/exit points while interacting with the public and answering inquiries.

Responsibilities

• Provide security and protection of air travelers, airports and aircraft in a courteous and professional manner.
• Operate various screening equipment to identify dangerous objects in baggage, cargo and on passengers and prevent them from being transported onto aircraft.
• Perform searches and screening, including pat-downs, searches of property, bag searches and lifting bags up to 50 lbs.
• Control terminal entry and exit points and ensure orderly flow of people.
• Interact with the public, give directions and respond to inquiries.
• Maintain focus and awareness in stressful environments to identify threats and make decisions.
• Engage in continuous development of critical thinking to mitigate security threats and apply risk-based screening protocols.
• Retain and implement knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures and adapt to new information or obstacles.
