Job summary

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority is seeking a Plumber Pipefitter to inspect, repair, and maintain complex plumbing and utility systems serving DCA and IAD. The role requires journey-level skills and the ability to read blueprints, follow codes, and perform diagnostic maintenance.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, and hold relevant licenses (Journeyman or BPAT/DOT OQ) with a Class B CDL preferred.

Qualifications

• Four years of progressively responsible experience in maintenance and repair of plumbing and pipefitting equipment.

• One year of specialized experience in installation, test, diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems.
• Journeyman-level knowledge of plumbing-pipefitting to inspect and repair systems.
• Knowledge of building and plumbing codes; able to read blueprints.
• Ability to speak and write effectively; computer literacy with work orders and attendance systems.

Responsibilities

• Installs pipes, plumbing, and related equipment.
• Performs emergency repairs on utility service lines.
• Conducts preventive maintenance on waste, water, and storm sewer systems.
• Tests and repairs backflow preventers; flushes hydrants.
• Uses blueprints and locator equipment for utility verification.
• Assists with NFPA 25 fire suppression and pump testing.
• Works on natural gas systems per manuals.
• Documents repairs and updates work orders.
• May operate and test HVAC/steam distribution sections.
• Supports safety and regulatory compliance.
