Job description

TEL Staffing is hiring an Aircraft Painter to join our team in Fairhope, AL.

*1 year of Aircraft Painting experience REQUIRED

Position Summary:

To perform the cleaning, welding, sheet metal, and painting of engines, and components. This position may work with hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals, as well as products to perform required tasks. This position is considered safety-sensitive in accordance with DOT and FAA regulations and as such, subject to drug and alcohol testing per FAA's regulations.

Purpose of Position:

To assist in the supervision of department staff and to give directions in the cleaning, welding, sheet metal, and painting of engines, and components. This position may work with hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals, as well as products to perform required tasks. This position is considered safety-sensitive in accordance with DOT and FAA regulations and as such, subject to drug and alcohol testing per FAA's regulations.

Essential Functions: (must be able to perform these functions, with or without a reasonable accommodation).
  • Cleans aviation parts with PRF680(mineral spirit), glass and plastic bead

  • Prepares for painting by cleaning, stripping, sanding, or chemically treating if needed

  • Preps parts (clean, tape, aluminum prep, alodine) for painting

  • Cures specific parts using oven as necessary

  • Cleans prep and paint area before, after, and during operations

  • Adequately cleans paint guns and paint equipment after each use

  • Maintains a clean workstation free from Foreign Object and or Debris (FOD), ensures tooling is properly stored

  • Maintains a clean/safe workspace free from spills or obstructions which may lead to harm

  • Properly disposes of excess materials throughout the operation

  • Works in accordance with applicable FAR’s, bulletins, maintenance manuals and acceptable practices

  • Must be able to perform duties with little or no supervision

  • Works to production schedule as directed by manager/lead

  • Must read routing tags/sheets/traveler and follow directives

  • Travels as required

  • Confers with manager/lead to recommend changes such as: equipment utilization, production methods and procedures to increase efficiency of department and promote improvement

  • Attends all safety and health training, as required, in a timely manner

  • Works when scheduled and complies with company attendance policy

  • Works overtime as needed

  • Observes and practices all safety procedures and personal policies (e.g. Safety-glasses, ear plugs, face shields etc.)

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: (these are required to enable job holder to perform the essential functions of the job).
  • Must be able to read and interpret SDS and Technical Data Sheets to safely mix paints in accordance with specifications

  • Must be able to use scales for mixing ratios

  • Must be able to maintain an effective working relationship with, and among co-workers and supervisors.

  • Must be able to work with little or no supervision and to take initiative

  • Must be able to use applied knowledge to formulate positive solutions to problem situations

  • Must be able to apply common sense

  • Must be able to effectively read, write and communicate in English

  • Must be proficient in specific company software and Microsoft Office Word and Excel

  • Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide, using fractions and decimals; compute percentages, ratios, rates and interpret graphs

  • Must be able to comply with OSHA requirements and standards to properly wear all applicable PPE

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. regularly and more, with assistance occasionally

  • Must be able to see within normal range of vision with or without corrective lenses

  • Must be able to hear running machinery

  • Must be able to use hands, wrists, and fingers repetitively

  • Must have exceptional eye-hand coordination

  • Must regularly be able to reach overhead

  • Must regularly be able to squat, bend, twist and stand

  • Must be able to walk around regularly using steps occasionally

  • Ability to provide verifications of US citizenship or permanent residency to satisfy ITAR/EAR restrictions

Marginal Functions: (Duties that are likely to be assigned to this person, unless he / she proves unable to perform them after receiving training and / or accommodations that the company judges appropriate).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Work Conditions:

Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. Noise is generally loud.

Experience and Education Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • One (1) year of aircraft painting experience is required.

  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment is preferred.

  • Must pass a criminal background check and DOT pre-employment drug screen and comply with all FAA regulations. Position is considered safety-sensitive in accordance with DOT and FAA regulations and as such, subject to drug and alcohol testing per FAA's regulations.

  • Ability to provide verifications of US citizenship or permanent residency to satisfy ITAR/EAR restrictions.
