Job description

Primary Function

The Aircraft Structural Mechanic III is responsible for assessing aircraft damage and drafting repair procedures for aircraft structural and composite components. Must be able to utilize advanced metalworking practices and depot‑level techniques to form, cut, bend, and fasten new or repair components to damaged structures. Must be highly proficient in close‑tolerance drilling/reaming for installation of high‑strength fasteners and expert in the use of powered or non‑powered metalworking tooling and equipment.

Essential Functions

• Inspect and assess damage to aircraft structural components and formulate proper repair/replacement procedures using applicable technical data.
• Remove and install close‑tolerance, high‑strength fasteners in major aircraft structural components.
• Design structural repair, modification, and corrosion protection treatments that maintain original strength, weight, and contour to preserve structural integrity.
• Perform post‑repair flight‑control weight and balance functions as well as control‑surface rigging per designated technical orders.
• Inspect components and repairs for structural serviceability according to specifications and technical publications.
• Manufacture and use jigs, fixtures, forms, and molds to fabricate repair or replacement parts.
• Use advanced metalworking practices, equipment, and tools to form, cut, bend, and fasten replacement or repair parts to damaged structures and components.
• Train in shop drawing and depot‑level metal layout techniques; shop mathematics; corrosion identification, removal, repair, and prevention; cleaning of metals; application of protective coatings and markings.
• Recommend methods to improve equipment performance and maintenance procedures.
• Use automated maintenance systems, inputting, validating, and analyzing data processed by these systems.
• Inspect, clear, and close out completed maintenance discrepancies in automated maintenance systems.
• Document maintenance per Quality Assurance (QA) and established regulatory requirements.
• Store, handle, and dispose of hazardous waste and materials per environmental standards and company processes.
• Operate and maintain related aircraft Support Equipment (SE).
• Use automated maintenance systems to monitor maintenance trends, analyze equipment requirements, maintain equipment records, document maintenance actions, and time change database entries.
• Perform regular Foreign Object Damage (FOD) walks.
• Maintain strict tool‑control procedures, reporting missing, lost, found, or unattended tools, and inventorying and inspecting tools regularly to replace worn or broken items.
• Comply with safety rules and regulations during day‑to‑day maintenance, promptly reporting accidents, injuries, safety violations, and unsafe practices or procedures.
• Enter maintenance records and verify work performed satisfactorily.
• Perform other related duties to meet the organization’s ongoing needs.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has the responsibility and authority to carry out assigned tasks.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

• Highly skilled in depot‑level processes and procedures for replacement of major structural components.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical documentation, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Strong decision‑analysis and problem‑solving skills; ability to draw conclusions, justify decisions, and communicate issues to management.
• Highly knowledgeable of fixed‑wing aircraft construction features and characteristics of aerospace materials, including proper use, mixing, and storage of acids, solvents, alcohol, caustics, primers, and paints, and proper handling and disposal of hazardous waste and materials.
• Extensive knowledge of fabrication and depot repair/replacement of metal, tubing, cable, plastic, fiberglass, bonded honeycomb, and composite structural components.
• Intermediate computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn additional computer skills or software programs; working knowledge of advanced software applications preferred.
• Must be able to use respirator, forced air, or other breathing equipment during the performance of assigned duties.
• Ability to enter data accurately into databases.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff; routine interaction with other crew members.
• Must possess effective oral and technical written communication skills to clearly convey information.
• Ability to use general office equipment such as fax, phone, copier, scanner, printers, etc.
• Ability to follow processes.
• Strong professional customer‑service skills, including active listening, prompt service, and follow‑up.
• Ability to learn and understand corporate policies and procedures and how they relate to Yulista goals.

QUALIFICATIONS

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 12+ years of relevant aircraft structural maintenance experience with fixed or rotary‑wing commercial, Government, or DoD aircraft.
• 5+ years of depot‑level structural maintenance experience.
• Previous Air Force Specialty Code 2A773 highly desirable.
• Multi‑aspect aviation qualifications or certifications and ability to train these skills is required.
• Experience supporting DoD contracts.
• Strong knowledge of commonly used depot‑level maintenance concepts, practices, and procedures.
• FAA Airframe and/or Powerplant certification a plus.
• Must have ability to obtain and maintain a Government Security Clearance.
