Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

Aircraft Mechanic (composites technician) in a commercial MRO setting is responsible for performing comprehensive maintenance, repair, and overhaul services on commercial aircraft or components to ensure safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance. This role supports high-volume operations and tight turnaround schedules requiring precision, efficiency, and adherence to FAA and OEM standards.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Visually inspect composite components (wings, fuselages, control surfaces, fairings, interior components) for defects, damage, or corrosion.
  2. Determine when a component should be repaired or replaced; decide upon necessary repair scheme, quantity and type of parts needed to accomplish proper repair; secure necessary parts from Stores or departmental supplies.
  3. Perform structural and cosmetic repairs using pre-preg or wet layup, honeycomb, carbon, and fiberglass materials utilizing vacuum bagging, hot bond, or room temperature curing.
  4. Trim, sand, drill, fit, and assemble composite parts using templates, hand tools, and specialized equipment.
  5. Interpret engineering drawings, Structural Repair Manuals (SRMs), blueprints, and maintenance manuals.
  6. Repair, rework, and modify worn or defective components, making alterations or changes to units when necessary.
  7. Follow approved maintenance procedures for the component or system, consulting internal procedures that have been FAA approved, original equipment manufacturer's (OEM's) technical data, and work package instructions.
  8. Consult the Maintenance Lead if technical assistance is needed during the repair process.
  9. Inspect completed work before sign off to identify any needed rework; perform rework; ensure that repaired components meet prescribed standards and tolerances.
  10. Perform serviceability tests on repaired components/systems using test equipment specified by the original equipment manufacturer.
  11. Complete work package documentation by signing/stamping after finishing all designated operations.
  12. Submit completed/in-progress work to Maintenance Lead for review; submit to Quality Control for final/in-progress inspection and re-certification of airworthiness.
  13. Provide Manager with performance statistics and other operational data, as requested.
  14. Properly account for time and materials used in all inspection and maintenance activities.
  15. Comply with repair station procedures (RSM/QCM) and company policies (SOP) when performing aircraft or component maintenance.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Education
  1. High School/ GED
  2. Airframe or Airframe & Powerplant License Preferred Not Required
Experience
  1. Recommended zero to two years' experience in composite repair or manufacture.
  2. Preferred one year plus of actual and recent depot level aircraft maintenance and composite repair experience, proficiency with interpretation of original equipment manufacturer's technical data or work package instructions; experience using power or pneumatic hand tools.
  3. Specialized Expertise: Demonstrated experience in at least one of the following aircraft maintenance disciplines:
    • Structural Repairs
    • Composite Repairs
    • Interior Systems
    Experience may be credited from other related industries as determined by the hiring manager.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  1. Knowledge of machines and tools, including their uses, repairs, and maintenance.
  2. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service.
  3. Skilled with repairing, troubleshooting, installing and equipment maintenance.
  4. Knowledge of FAA requirements for aircraft maintenance procedures.
  5. Ability to interpret and comprehend manufacturer and FAA approved work package instructions; ability to inspect and install parts/components.
Working Conditions / Environment/ Special Requirements
  1. Ability to work in a safe professional manner adhering to all regulatory requirements including OSHA, EPA, State and Federal regulations.
  2. Ability to work flexible hours and different shifts if required.
  3. Employees will be subject to the random drug and alcohol testing under FAA regulations.
  4. As required by the position, must have the ability to wear a respirator as per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134 "Respirator Protection" regulations with no restrictions that would prevent the proper use and/or seal of the respirator.
  5. Tools must satisfy minimum tool list.
  6. Valid Driver's License.
  7. Must be able to work in hot/Cold – Indoor/Outdoor.
  8. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted.
  9. Must be able to do work above head.
  10. Must be able to work at heights.
  11. Must be able to work in confined spaces.
  12. Must be able to climb.
