Job summary

West Star Aviation Inc. in Reading, PA is looking for an Aircraft Maintenance Technician. This full-time, on-site role involves performing general mechanical tasks, removal and installation of panels and components, and troubleshooting aircraft systems.

The position requires an Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license and a valid driver's license; passport is ideal for travel. You will work with ground support equipment, communicate in English, and participate in rotating shifts including nights

Responsibilities

  • Perform general mechanical tasks on aircraft and related systems.
  • Remove and install panels and components as needed.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve aircraft system/component issues.
  • De-fueling aircraft and engine removal/installation as required.
  • Operate ground support equipment and assist in taxiing and performance runs.
  • Maintain shop facilities, equipment, and tooling; report issues to Lead Mechanic.

Whether you are replacing or repairing parts, troubleshooting electrical/mechanical/hydraulic and pneumatic systems or performing inspections on some of the most sophisticated civilian aircraft in the world, no day is the same. You Will Be ESSENTIAL To Many FUNCTIONS Including
  • Performing general mechanical tasks on aircraft and related systems.
  • Removal and installation of panels and components,
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving aircraft system/component issues
  • De-fueling aircraft,
  • Engine removal/installations,
  • Operating ground support equipment,
  • Inspection and evaluation of the aircraft and components
  • Aircraft movement and assistance in performance runs/ taxiing
  • Maintenance and repair of shop facility, equipment and tooling
  • Immediately notify the Lead Mechanic of any problem areas such as parts, materials, workmanship, or airworthiness issues.
  • Provides the Lead Mechanic with a detailed report of work progression and open items to be included in the shift turnover log
  • Proper tagging of Aircraft components, parts, and panels appropriately stored including racks by aircraft.
  • Basic computer skills to be able to navigate electronic training, manuals, and maintenance data bases
  • Willing and able to work rotating shifts including, nights, holidays, weekends and days off.
  • Effectively and clearly communicate (i.e., speak, write, read) in English
  • Any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management.
Your Education

What you’ll need to bring with you: A High school diploma or equivalent, and Airframe and Powerplant License are required. A valid driver’s license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport is ideal

Your Sense Of Responsibility

Attend work every day as scheduled to include overtime and weekend assignments.

Notify supervisor in advance of shift starting if unable to work.

Must have reliable transportation to get to work each and every day.

Perform all work in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration guidelines.

Follow all company and safety rules during performance of duties.

Maintain customer-oriented work habits.

Physical Requirements

Lifts 70 lbs.

Routine walking, bending and squatting or sitting.

Routine or repetitive physical motion with arms and hands.

Work on elevated platforms (up to 40 ft. in the air) using fall protection safety gear

Work in small, restricted areas

Standing for long periods of time.

Mental Requirements

Understanding and implementation of regulations and guidelines.

Troubleshoot or evaluate system operation.

Work with others in a professional manner.

Supervision

Work under supervision of assigned Team Leader and Director of Maintenance.

May be directed to supervise other technicians in some capacity.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a hangar environment subject to extreme temperature variations from very cold to very hot.

Work outside during aircraft runs will occur.

Varied positions in and around the aircraft.

Equipment Used

Personal hand tools supplied by the mechanic.

Pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical equipment.

Jacks, stands, lifts and other support devices.

Tugs, power carts and other engine powered equipment.
