Job summary

L3Harris is seeking an Avionics Technician C to perform avionics/electronics maintenance on G550/EA-37B aircraft in Tucson, AZ. The role includes fault isolation, repair, and scheduled/unscheduled maintenance, with potential for travel up to 40% and deployment requirements.

Qualifications

• Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 6 years of prior avionics relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience.
• Minimum 2 years experience in the use of common hand and special tools/testers as required to perform avionics maintenance tasks.
• Minimum 2 years experience reading and interpreting aircraft technical publications.
• Must have the ability to pass a required physical exam and CRC for OCONUS deployment.
• Must be a US citizen.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Valid US Passport.

Responsibilities

• Obtain and maintain an interim secret DoD security clearance prior to hire.
• Test, inspect, repair, and replace avionic systems and components on the G550/EA-37B aircraft; repair wiring and harnesses.
• Perform operational checkout of avionics systems during pre-flight and post-flight.
• Troubleshoot and repair any systems to make aircraft ready for flight for quick turn-around.
• Assist in launch, recovery, servicing, and ground handling of aircraft.
• Perform inspections per OEM procedures.

Job Description:

The Avionics Technician performs aircraft avionics/electronics systems and components, Electro/Environmental, and associated component repair and maintenance. Conducts fault isolation, repairs, removal and replacement of components to resolve avionics or electrical discrepancies. Completes scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of avionics on G550/EA-37B aircraft. Supports maintenance and repair of Mission Support Equipment as necessary. This position will report to the Lead Avionics Technician.

Essential Functions:

• Ability to obtain and maintain an interim secret DoD security clearance as a minimum prior to hire.
• Responsible for testing, inspection, repair, and removal and replacement of avionic systems and components on the G550/EA-37B aircraft. Repairs aircraft wiring/wiring harnesses.
• Performs operational checkout of aircraft avionics systems during pre-flight and post-flight as necessary.
• Responds to flight/maintenance crew reported discrepancies by troubleshooting and repairing any systems to make aircraft ready for flight for quick turn-around.
• Assists in launch, recovery, servicing, and ground handling of aircraft.
• Performs scheduled/unscheduled inspections as required in accordance with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) procedures.
• Prepares parts for turn-in back into the supply system. Initiates material deficiency reports as required.
• Maintains tools, hand and special, in a safe and serviceable condition.
• Responsible for site, customer, and company tool accountability procedures to include reporting unserviceable tools and equipment to the appropriate responsible party.
• Performs serviceability checks prior to operating powered and non-powered support equipment.
• Complies with all safety, environmental, security and housekeeping standards, policies, and procedures.
• Maintains infrared detecting system, airborne video, laser system and night vision system.
• Assists assigned personnel in researching and requisitioning aircraft parts and components and in determining the reparability and serviceability of these assets.
• Assists in aircraft movement and flight line FOD prevention walks as required.
• Operates GSE, flight line vehicles and other support equipment as authorized and required.
• Ability to work day shift, night shift or weekend duty and travel as part of a maintenance recovery team as required.
• Ability to travel up to 40% CONUS and OCONUS deployment may be required.
• Ability to work in the established OCONUS work/living environment, work a schedule of 7 days, 12 hour shifts as assigned to support mission requirements.
• Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a government flight line driver's license.
• In-depth knowledge (aircraft/vehicle movement and safety/hazards) of flight line operations.
• In-depth knowledge of aircraft technical orders/job guides/publications-read, interpret, follow and comprehend schematic diagrams, drawings, charts and technical publications.
• Working knowledge (input and extract data) of maintenance database technology.
• Willingness and ability to perform in-flight FCF checks.

Qualifications:

• Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 6 years of prior avionics relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience.

Preferred Additional Skills:

• Active DoD security clearance.
• Active Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license.
• Completion of a military or civilian aviation avionics technical school or possess an FCC License with endorsements is preferred.
• Experience on Gulfstream, Global Jet, or business jet avionics maintenance experience is highly preferred.
• Experience on maintaining Honeywell Primus systems preferred.
• Experience in repair and maintenance of radar, communications, nav-aids, lighting and instrumentation.
• Support repair and maintenance of Mission Support ISR equipment as required.
• Possess a positive attitude, be a self-starter, work well with others.
• Must have in-depth working knowledge of aircraft safety directives.

Physical Requirements:

This classification activity is usually accomplished in a flight line-like environment with extensive climbing, standing, stooping, bending, pushing, kneeling, stretching, and walking demands. May require lifting and/or moving of objects whose weight normally will not exceed 50lbs. Special vision abilities required to perform this job are close and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability adjust and focus.

Work Environment:

The diversity of working conditions both CONUS and OCONUS range from an environment where there is little or no physical discomfort, to an environment where inclement weather may subject the individual to severe changes in temperature, wind, rain, etc. May be required to work in areas where high noise hazards, exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and electrical shock hazards exist.
