Job summary

Cirrus Aircraft Ltd. is seeking a Body Shop Technician in Duluth, MN. This learning role will teach masking, body filler application, and sanding to prep parts for primer and paint.

You will work independently or in a small team within a physical workshop environment. The role focuses on inspecting components, identifying defects, and applying filler with air and hand tools, followed by surface finishing and spray painting in a controlled booth.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• 1+ year related experience in dry wall, mudding, and taping and/or related training.
• Able to read drawings/blue prints and can calculate dimensions with accuracy.
• Knowledge of basic tools.
• Uses good judgement.
• Auto/marine mechanic and/or collision repair: Ability to work on auto/marine items to remove and install components.
• Assembly: Perform basic assembly tasks, such as installing parts and hardware, as required following specific instructions.
• Military: Guard, Reserves and active military experience in a non-mechanical discipline.
• Surface Preparation: Prep surfaces for adhesives by cleaning, sanding, and masking areas to ensure proper adhesion.
• Carpentry skills: Fine detail carpentry building such as furniture, cabinets, etc.
• Construction/DIY: Building, framing, construction, etc. as well as detailed major home repair.
• Fast paced environments: Work environments like quick oil change, tire change, line cooks, fast food, health care, etc.

Responsibilities

• Inspects aircraft components, sub-assemblies, and composite parts for body work prep.
• Identifies and communicates defects to supervisor when found.
• Follows instructions and asks questions as needed.
• Applies body filler to create a smooth surface contour.
• Learns to use air tools and hand tools for high-volume sanding.
• Follows PPE requirements and safety data sheets.
• Uses planning documents to complete duties accurately.
• Sprays surfaces with primers/paints using spray gun.
• Controls spray width and pressure per painting techniques.
• Removes excess material matching drawings and specs.
• Uses air tools for sanding/grinding; applies filler to re-establish contour.
• Repairs damaged metal/composite components with pneumatic tools.
• Grinds, sands, and finishes filler to match surface.
