Job summary

Total Safety is seeking an Air Technician to service and repair gas monitoring systems, SCBA, and breathing equipment. You will inspect, calibrate, clean, and test equipment, document results, and assist in warehousing and order preparation.

The role requires travel to customer sites, including offshore projects; candidates should have a high school diploma or GED plus field experience. Training will cover regulatory standards and licenses within six months.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED; an associate degree, technical or military training is preferred.
  • At least 1 year of field experience in fire protection, petrochemical, oil refinery or related industry.
  • Valid driver’s license, proof of vehicle insurance, safe driving record and insurability for company vehicle insurance.
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites, including offshore projects.
  • Be able to study for and pass basic license requirements within six months of employment and obtain State Fire Marshal Licenses and ICC/NAFED certification within six months.
  • Knowledge of safety and regulatory standards (OSHA, NFPA, CFR) and Coast Guard/ABS regulations if offshore.

Responsibilities

  • Receipt, inspection, cleaning, servicing, reassembling, and testing of SCBA and other respiratory equipment.
  • Routine inspection and maintenance of breathing air regulators and reducers.
  • Documentation and data entry for inspection and repair; obtain customer signatures for invoicing.
  • Perform detailed visual inspections and system functional tests; report deficiencies and suggest corrective actions.
  • Assess repair needs, quote customers for repair or replacement, arrange delivery.
  • Assist in facilities: stocking shelves, pulling and loading orders for delivery.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area and undertake additional duties after training.

Job description

Air Technician

Work as an Air Technician providing quality workmanship in cleaning, calibrating, and repairing gas monitoring systems, water/moisture measuring equipment, and breathing equipment.

Essential Duties
  • Receipt, inspection, cleaning, servicing, reassembling, and testing of various SCBA and other respiratory equipment and breathing air equipment in accordance with approved testing and service procedures.
  • Routine inspection and maintenance of breathing air regulators and reducers.
  • Complete documentation and data entry associated with inspection and repair, obtain customer signatures for invoicing and documentation.
  • Conduct detailed visual inspections and system functional tests of various systems and equipment, report deficiencies, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Assess repair needs, quote customer price and delivery for repair or replacement.
  • Assist in facilities: stocking shelves with clean, tested, ready‑to‑use equipment; pull, stage, and load customer orders onto trucks for delivery.
  • Maintain work area clean and orderly; perform additional duties after training.
Skills and Experience
  • At least one (1) year of field experience in fire protection, petrochemical, oil refinery or related industry.
  • Valid driver’s license of state of residence, proof of vehicle insurance, safe driving record, and insurable for company vehicle insurance while driving company truck. Forklift experience preferred; internal forklift certification required.
  • Willingness to travel to customers’ sites, including short and long‑term out‑of‑town and/or offshore projects.
  • Class C driver’s license with a DOT hazardous endorsement if required by facility. Ability to study for and pass any basic license requirements within six months of employment. Obtain applicable State Fire Marshal Licenses and ICC/NAFED certification within six months of hire date if land based.
  • Knowledge of electronic safety equipment operation and understanding of production platform shutdowns performed through fire and gas detection systems.
  • Ability to operate, maintain, reassemble, and test electronic safety equipment per manufacturers’ specifications.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose equipment problems and take corrective action within policy and procedure limits.
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards (State, OSHA, NFPA, CFR) and Coast Guard/ABS regulations if offshore.
Working Environment

Shop and yard environment, frequently exposed to wet, humid, outside weather conditions and vibration. Works in some customer environments during training. May be exposed to high pressure, chemicals, and shop traffic. Noise level usually moderate.

Educational Requirements

High School diploma or GED. Associate degree, technical or military training strongly preferred.
