Job summary

Liberty Energy is seeking an Air Quality Engineer to support environmental, regulatory, and engineering projects involving atmospheric emissions, air quality, and CFD simulations. You will develop CFD models to evaluate plume behavior, perform dispersion analyses with AERMOD and CALPUFF, and prepare technical reports for facilities across oil, gas, and power sectors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical or environmental engineering or related field.
  • 2+ years of CFD and air dispersion modeling experience.
  • Proficient in CFD software (e.g., ANSYS Fluent).
  • Proficient in air dispersion models (AERMOD, CALPUFF).
  • Knowledge of fluid mechanics, atmospheric transport/dispersion, heat transfer, and regulations.
  • Strong technical writing and presentation skills.
  • Strong problem analysis and time management.
  • Demonstrated project management and stakeholder coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Perform air dispersion modeling analyses using AERMOD, CALPUFF, and EPA platforms.
  • Develop CFD models to evaluate plume behavior and dispersion.
  • Analyze meteorological, terrain, land use, and operation data for modeling.
  • Evaluate facility compliance with air quality regulations and permitting.
  • Support air permit applications and regulatory demonstrations.
  • Prepare technical reports, concentration maps, and client presentations.
  • Collaborate with teams to develop emission reduction strategies.
  • Conduct QA/QC of inputs, calculations, and deliverables.
  • Assist with regulatory agency responses and permit negotiations.
  • Support R&D on emerging emissions control technologies.
  • Maintain proficiency in air quality regulations and CFD software.

Job description

The Air Quality Engineer will support environmental, regulatory, and engineering projects involving atmospheric emissions, air quality, and fluid flow analysis. This role will assist with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations, air dispersion modeling studies, emissions impact assessments, and technical reporting for industrial facilities, power generation equipment, oil and gas operations, and other emission sources.

Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field
  • 2+ years of experience in CFD and air dispersion modeling
  • Proficiency in CFD modeling software such as ANSYS Fluent or similar systems
  • Proficiency in air dispersion modeling software such as AERMOD and CALPUFF
  • Fundamental understanding of fluid mechanics, atmospheric transport and dispersion, heat transfer, and environmental regulations
  • Technical presentation and writing skills
  • Problem analysis and problem solving

  • Demonstrated project management skills, including scheduling, budgeting, and stakeholder coordination

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Perform air dispersion modeling analyses using AERMOD, CALPUFF, and other EPA-approved modeling platforms.
  • Develop Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) models to evaluate exhaust plume behavior, building downwash effects, facility airflow, and emissions dispersion.
  • Process and analyze meteorological, terrain, land use, and operational data required for environmental modeling studies.
  • Evaluate facility compliance with federal, state, and local air quality regulations and permitting requirements.
  • Support air permit applications, environmental impact assessments, and regulatory demonstrations.
  • Analyze modeling results and prepare technical reports, concentration contour maps, visualizations, and client-ready presentations.
  • Collaborate with engineering, environmental, and operations teams to develop emissions reduction and compliance strategies.
  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) reviews of modeling inputs, calculations, and technical deliverables.
  • Assist with regulatory agency responses, permit negotiations, and technical documentation requests.
  • Support research and development efforts focused on emerging emissions control technologies and modeling methodologies.
  • Maintain proficiency in air quality regulations, modeling guidance, CFD software, and industry best practices
