Job summary

Worldwide Flight Services in Windsor Locks, CT is seeking a warehouse/express package handler to load, unload, sort and prepare cargo for outbound flights. You’ll operate pallet jacks and need to read and follow safety instructions in a dynamic, outdoor/indoor airport environment.

Applicants should have a High School Diploma or GED, be at least 18, able to work weekends and holidays, and hold a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• One-year experience in similar role preferred but not required.
• Valid Driver’s license required.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must be able to work weekends and holidays; peak season may require longer hours.
• Ability to read, write and understand English; respond to safety commands.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload express packages from air freight containers to/from semi-trucks.
• Sort, scan and move small packages within the warehouse.
• Build up/break down package containers for outbound/inbound flights.
• Remove tie-downs and other gear during loading/unloading.
• Operate air freight handling equipment (pallet jacks, gaylords).
• Weigh, label, or break down of gaylords/containers; verify counts and documents per safety guidelines.
• Report on time for shifts and overtime; complete trainings as required.
• Adhere to safety policies and company procedures.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload Express packages from air freight containers to and from semi-trucks in a widely dispersed area.
• Sorting, scanning and movement of small packages within the warehouse.
• Buildup / Breakdown package containers ready for outbound/inbound flights
• Removal of tie‑downs and other gear when loading and unloading
• Operate air freight handling equipment such as pallet jacks and gaylords (push carts)
• Weighing, labeling, or make/break‑down of gaylords or air freight containers
• Check air express containers for proper piece count, weight, dimensions and documents as appropriate per air safety and security guidelines
• Report to position on time, as scheduled, including mandatory overtime requirements, varying shifts, weekends, and holidays
• Successfully complete required computer based and on the job trainings
• Adhere to company policies, procedures, and performance standards
• Perform all functions in accordance with safety procedures and policies
• Work outdoors with exposure to extreme weather/elements, engine noise, and noxious fumes

Minimum Requirements

• High School Diploma, GED or international equivalent required
• One-year experience in similar role preferred not required
• Valid Driver’s license
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must be able to work weekends (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) and holidays. Peak Season (November-December) may require longer hours
• Ability to read, write and understand the English language
• Ability to understand and react to verbal commands and safety warnings, with and without, assistance of sight or visual aids

Preferred Skills

• Ability to read, write, fluently speak and understand the English language.
• Ability to work rotating shifts including weekends (i.e., Friday, Saturday and Sunday), holidays, and days off.
• Ability to judge distances.
• Ability to successfully communicate with others.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

• Ability to lift up to 70 lbs.
• Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions, including hot and cold temperatures, rain, wind and snow
• Ability to stand for an entire shift and move long distances across our facilities by foot
