Job summary

Kyyba is seeking an Automotive Air Intake Engineer to support the design, development, validation, and launch of air intake systems for internal combustion engine and hybrid electrified vehicles, based in Auburn Hills, MI.

You will lead cross-functional teams, coordinate CAD/CAE, manage suppliers, apply DFMEA and DVP&R, and drive production readiness from early packaging through launch. Travel to supplier locations may be required.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited program required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• Experience with DFMEA and DVP&R.
• Ability to lead/manage suppliers and track deliverables.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and validate air intake systems and components.
• Support development of air intake ducts, air cleaners, air filters, resonators, and related parts.
• Support early packaging through production launch.
• Coordinate CAD design, CAE, prototyping, physical testing, and documentation.
• Develop and apply DFMEA and DVP&R to identify and mitigate risks.
• Lead and coordinate supplier activities, milestones, and issues.
• Support vehicle and engine assembly plant activities as needed.
• Assist with quality concerns and cost/value optimization after launch.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet air intake and engine objectives.

Job Description

We are seeking an Automotive Air Intake Engineer to support the design, development, validation, and launch of air intake systems for internal combustion engine and hybrid electrified vehicles. This is a hands-on automotive engineering opportunity focused on air intake components, supplier coordination, product validation, and vehicle/engine-level development.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and validate air intake systems and components
• Support components including air intake ducts, air cleaners, air filters, resonators, make-up air hoses, brackets, and charge ducts
• Support development from early packaging through production launch
• Coordinate CAD design, CAE, prototyping, physical testing, and engineering documentation
• Develop and apply DFMEA and DVP&R to identify and mitigate product risks
• Lead and coordinate supplier activities, including part maturity, timing, milestones, and technical issues
• Support vehicle and engine assembly plant activities as needed
• Assist with quality concerns, process change validation, and technical cost reduction/value optimization after launch
• Work with cross-functional teams to achieve air intake, engine, and vehicle-level functional objectives

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent from an ABET-accredited program
• Working knowledge of air intake systems and components
• Experience with DFMEA and DVP&R
• Ability to lead/manage suppliers and track deliverables
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple concurrent engineering activities
• General knowledge of CAD, spreadsheets, and presentations
• Willingness to travel occasionally to supplier locations, assembly plants, proving grounds, and technical centers

Preferred Qualifications

• 5+ years of air intake systems or related engine/vehicle-level testing experience
• Experience with plastic component manufacturing, particularly injection molding or blow molding
• Experience with NVH, Rise-Over-Ambient, water-fording, or related testing
• Knowledge of DFSS / Green Belt methodologies
• Familiarity with powertrain software and controls
• Knowledge of OEM/ engineering systems and processes
