Job summary

Pearland ISD is seeking a dedicated Educational Aide to support students with disabilities in a special education setting. You will assist in implementing classroom programs, collecting data, and helping with self-help and behavioral supports, under the supervision of a certified teacher.

Responsibilities include preparing instructional materials, following instructions, and maintaining confidentiality. Must be able to lift/lightly handle equipment and work in a dynamic school environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must obtain Texas Educational Aide Certificate after hire.
• Two years of college or an associate's degree or equivalent demonstrated through assessment.

Responsibilities

• Assist the special education teacher in classroom activities and program implementation.
• Support data collection and progress monitoring.
• Assist with self-help, behavior management, and instructional activities.
• Prepare and manage instructional materials and equipment for lessons.

Job description

Primary Purpose: Assist the special education teacher in the preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements to provide for the physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities in a special education setting. Assist in the implementation of classroom programs, including self-help, behavior management, data collection, and instruction. Work under the general supervision of the principal and the immediate direction of a certified teacher.

Qualifications

Education

• High school diploma or GED
• Valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate (Can be obtained once hired)
• -Must have completed at least two (2) years of study at an institution of higher education; or
• -Obtained and associate's (or higher) degree; or
• -Met a rigorous standard of quality demonstrated through a formal state or local academic assessment.

Special Knowledge/Skills

• Ability to work well with children with disabilities
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Knowledge of general office and technology equipment

Experience

• Two years of experience working with children

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

Frequent light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); Occasional heavy lifting (45 pounds or over) and positioning or students with physical disabilities, controlling behavior through physical restraint, assisting nonambulatory students, and lifting and moving adaptive and other classroom equipment. Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise; exposure to biological hazards (bacteria, communicable diseases)
