Job summary

SpaceXSI is seeking a temporary AI Tutor, Design to enhance Grok by providing high-quality data annotations and design inputs across graphic, web, UI/UX, and game design contexts. You will craft precise annotations to guide model training and evaluate outputs for clarity, usability, and consistency.

Remote role spanning up to 6 months with potential extensions; US, UK, Canada, Australia allowed; some US states restricted.

Qualifications

• 1+ years in a design discipline (graphic/UX/web/game illustration).
• Portfolio of professional design work (Behance, Dribbble, etc.).
• Strong fundamentals in visual hierarchy, typography, spacing and color.
• Ability to critique design quality and explain rationale clearly.
• Experience across multiple design domains preferred.
• Familiarity with accessibility and inclusive design principles.
• Proficient in modern design tools (Figma, Adobe CC).
• Experience with AI-assisted design tools and workflows.
• Experience in design critique, art direction, QA, or AI evaluation.

AI TUTOR, DESIGN - TEMPORARY

In this role, you will help enhance Grok by providing high-quality data annotations and inputs tailored to design contexts. You will leverage your expertise in fields such as graphic design, brand and visual design, product or UI/UX design, web design, game design, and illustration to support its training. You will evaluate, refine, and create design work so Grok can distinguish weak design from work that is clear, functional, and well-resolved. This work is grounded in design judgment, not software engineering or mastery of every medium.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Evaluate design outputs across formats, including visual assets, layouts, documents, websites, interactive prototypes, and/or games
• Identify and clearly articulate design issues, including work that looks attractive but fails in use
• Refine, restyle, or recreate outputs when they fall short, producing exceptionally strong examples
• Write precise, well-reasoned annotations and critiques explaining the difference between mediocre, good, and excellent design
• Help label high-quality datasets spanning graphic design, interface design, web experiences, game feel, and related design writing
• Collaborate with technical staff on evaluation guidelines, rubrics, and examples that set a high bar for design quality
• Work across a wide range of briefs and styles, from simple static pieces to complex interactive products, while staying consistent in quality and judgment

POSITION DETAILS:

This is a temporary position with SpaceXSI, for the length of time as stated, and is subject to change with minimal notice as business needs dictate

• LENGTH OF POSITION: 6 months (extensions or conversion to a permanent role may be available based on business needs)
• LOCATION: Remote (United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia); for US-based candidates, please note that we are unable to hire in Wyoming and Illinois at this time

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• 1+ years of professional experience (including freelance or contract work) in a design discipline such as graphic design, brand/visual design, product or UI/UX design, web design, game design, or illustration
• Portfolio of professional design work (personal site, Behance, Dribbble, ArtStation, or equivalent)

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Sharp eye for fundamentals (visual hierarchy, typography, spacing, color, composition, consistency, and clarity of communication)
• Ability to evaluate design quality outside your primary specialty and clearly articulate what works, what does not, and why
• Comfort creating high-quality reference examples, not only evaluating existing ones
• Strong written communication for critiques, annotations, and design rationale
• Strength across more than one design domain (for example, graphic design plus web, or UI plus game design)
• Experience shipping or professionally reviewing websites, product interfaces, or games
• Familiarity with accessibility and inclusive design principles
• Working knowledge of modern design tools such as Figma, Adobe Creative Cloud, or equivalent
• Experience with generative AI design tools and a clear point of view on when AI output looks generic, broken, or well-designed
• Prior experience in design critique, art direction, QA, design review, data annotation, or AI evaluation

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• This role may be offered as a full-time or part-time position depending on role/business needs and candidate availability; full-time positions are preferred and require working standard business hours in your local time zone
• We are unable to provide visa sponsorship
• Must be willing to travel to a SpaceXSI site

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

US-based candidates: $35/hour - $75/hour depending on factors including relevant experience, skills, education, geographic location, and qualifications. International candidates: Information will be provided to you during the recruitment process.
