Google DeepMind is seeking a Research Engineer for the Polaris team to design complex software engineering tasks that test Gemini’s capabilities. This role embeds within DeepMind’s research ecosystem to prototype implementations and push the frontier of AI-assisted software development.

You will create rigorous tasks, participate in experiments, and collaborate with researchers to advance evaluations and data quality, while aligning with broader Google AI safety and ethics standards.

Qualifications

• Experience in software development or programming.
• Experience using AI-assisted coding tools, developer agents, or LLM-based workflows for software development.
• Experience using coding agents for performing work.

Responsibilities

• Create tasks to measure Gemini’s ability to perform long-horizon software engineering tasks.
• Launch projects within DeepMind to improve Gemini’s training data and evaluations (evals).
• Contribute to experiments, prototyping implementations, and architectural designs for real-world AI software engineering problems.
