Job summary

Software Engineering Institute (SEI) at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA is seeking an Assistant AI Security Researcher to advance AI security research and threat analysis. You will co-author proposals, execute research, and present findings to DoD sponsors and academic conferences.

Required: BS in ML, cybersecurity or related field; experience with Python or C/C++; familiarity with Numpy, PyTorch, TensorFlow, ART; reverse engineering tools; global collaboration and travel up to 5%.

Qualifications

  • BS in machine learning, cybersecurity, statistics or related discipline.
  • Practical experience applying cybersecurity knowledge to vulnerability research or mitigation.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML software packages and tools (Numpy, PyTorch, TensorFlow, ART).
  • Experience with reverse engineering tools and low-level programming.

Responsibilities

  • Develop state of the art approaches for analyzing robustness of AI systems.
  • Apply approaches to understand vulnerabilities in AI systems and attacker tradecraft.
  • Reverse engineer malicious code to support high-impact customers and develop new analysis methods.
  • Study AI security ecosystems and publish results to stakeholders.
  • Evaluate tools and processes from industry and AI security research communities.
  • Uncover fundamental assumptions underlying current AI security practice.
  • Develop models and datasets to characterize threats and vulnerabilities in AI systems.
