Job summary

Origin Medical Research Lab, the research arm of Origin Medical, is seeking an AI Research Intern to join a multidisciplinary team of researchers, engineers, clinicians and partners. You will work on new deep learning models to automate fetal ultrasound assessment and advance AI in healthcare.

You will be mentored by industry experts, test hypotheses across experiments, and translate research into real-world product impact in collaboration with product, software, and regulatory teams.

Qualifications

• At least 6 months of hands-on deep learning or ML research related to image recognition.
• Experience with convolutional neural networks, optimization and model search.
• Strong Python and Git knowledge.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication.

Responsibilities

• AI algorithmic research: design and implement next-generation deep learning models for fetal ultrasound image assessment and develop interpretable visualization tools.
• AI algorithm validation: assess safety and efficacy across product development stages.
• Technology translation: collaborate with Product, Software, and Regulatory teams to deploy research into products.

About the Research Team and the Role

As an AI Research Intern at Origin Medical Research Lab, you will be working with our team of research engineers, AI scientists, leading medical institutions, and clinicians in developing the next-generation deep learning algorithms for the automated assessment of fetal ultrasound images. Our internships provide a very unique, hands-on first-of-its-kind research experience to solve the most challenging AI problems that push the frontiers of AI in healthcare. You will have the opportunity to try and test hypotheses for multiple experiments and be mentored by industry experts to translate your research into a product for real-world impact.

What will you do?

• AI algorithmic research: Design and implement next-generation deep learning models (e.g., Classification/Segmentation/Object detection/ Landmark detection) to build world-class products. This also includes the development of visualization tools and frameworks to create interpretable deep-learning models.
• AI algorithm validation: Validate deep learning technologies for safety and efficacy at various stages of the product development life cycle.
• Technology translation: Work with Product, Software, and Regulatory teams to translate technologies developed into products for real-world use.
• Technology and engineering strategy: Research into the latest technologies (not limited to AI) to provide strategy and direction in product development.

Who are we looking for?

• Passionate about developing the next generation of deep-technological healthcare solutions to impact the lives of millions of expecting mothers and their families around the world.
• At least 6 months of hands-on experience in deep learning or machine learning research and development pertaining to image recognition: convolutional neural networks, optimization, hyperparameter tuning, model search, etc.
• Experience in:

- Language: Python.

- Frameworks: PyTorch

• Basic understanding and knowledge of:

- Medical imaging processing.

- Real-time model development and deployment frameworks.

- Git and Git workflow.

• Analytical thinker with an innate inquisitiveness, relevant interests, and creativity.
• Ability to quickly read, understand, and implement academic publications.
• Team player and eager-to-learn attitude.
• Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively - both verbally and in writing - in English.
• Previous internship experience in early-stage startups is a plus.
