The fellow will work with researchers to translate questions into computable AI approaches, contribute to data management plans, and help position the university for external funding, using Talon HPC resources.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. earned within the last five years in a highly quantitative field with substantial emphasis on machine learning, deep learning, or computational research
• Experience building, training, and evaluating machine-learning or deep-learning models using frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or comparable tools
• Hands-on experience with GPU-accelerated computing and HPC clusters, including running AI/ML workloads in shared environments
• Strong record of scientific productivity with peer-reviewed publications, conference proceedings, or comparable outputs

Responsibilities

• Translate discipline-specific research questions into computationally feasible AI/ML approaches
• Assist in onboarding, documentation, and training to enable HPC/GPU resource use
• Identify and pursue external computational resources and allocation opportunities
• Maintain an active scholarly presence in AI/ML communities through research
• Prepare data for computational analysis with preprocessing, provenance, and reproducibility practices
• Contribute as a co-author to interdisciplinary manuscripts with a focus on computational sections
• Support proposal development and role on projects as appropriate
• Assist in federal grant proposals targeting NSF, NIH, DOE, and other agencies
• Draft Data Management and Sharing (DMS) and FEOR sections aligned with mandates
• Develop AI research workflows for reproducible, secure, and compliant research
• Collaborate with CTO and Research IT to expand GPU-enabled AI workloads in Talon HPC
• Design workflows for shared HPC, including scheduling, data movement, and storage
