Slalom Build is hiring an Architect in Quality Engineering to lead test strategy across multi-layered applications, including AI-enabled components. You will influence architecture, balance hands-on work with technical leadership, and advise clients on quality strategy and risk.

You will shape test automation, evolve open-source frameworks, and define in-sprint quality activities while coaching teammates and guiding delivery decisions.

Competenze

8+ years in quality engineering or software delivery with deep expertise.
Bachelor's degree in CS, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
Expert, code-based test automation with hands-on CI/CD, cloud, and API testing.
Experience advising clients and senior stakeholders and mentoring engineers.
Daily use of AI-assisted quality tools and evaluating AI-powered features.

At Slalom, we co-create custom software, data and cloud products with clients who are ready to accelerate their digital transformation. Slalom's Quality Engineering (QE) discipline brings a modern approach to software quality, playing a critical role in high-velocity software engineering teams. We work with current and emerging tools and techniques, including AI-assisted ones, built on whole-team ownership of quality and reliable, scalable test automation.

We work in cross-functional teams to build full-stack solutions across web and mobile front ends, APIs and microservices, cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), data and AI products including LLM-powered features, and automated build and deployment pipelines.

This is a hybrid role with flexibility to balance independent work and in-person collaboration.

What You’ll Do

As an Architect, you will bring depth of experience in software quality to a collaborative team. You will act as a champion of quality who influences architecture, flex between hands-on work and technical leadership, and serve as a trusted advisor to your team and clients. Specifically, you will:

Lead the team in defining test strategies for multi-layered applications, including AI-enabled components
Take part in solution architecture discussions and identify test framework needs
Define robust test automation architecture, plan, design, and build frameworks, evolve open-source frameworks, and create trusted, reliable test automation
Define and drive in-sprint and post-sprint quality activities, and guide the team on testability, acceptance criteria, non-functional requirements, and the definition of done
Coach team members and help them unblock tasks and drive to resolution
Advise client and delivery leaders on quality strategy, risk, and trade-offs; influence architecture and delivery decisions; and contribute to Discovery, proposals, and estimates
Where AI adds value, define where AI-assisted tools fit in the quality approach, set safeguards and review checkpoints, and design evaluation strategies for AI-powered features
Share what you learn with your teams and the broader QE community

What You’ll Bring

You bring experience and confidence in Agile team environments and act as a velocity multiplier. You are highly proficient in using code to build reliable, trusted test automation across multiple technology solutions, and you lead team efforts to elevate quality throughout the project lifecycle.
Deep expertise in test strategy and design for complex, multi-layered systems, using risk-based approaches
Expert, code-based automation in at least one major language and stack, having planned, designed, and built frameworks from the ground up
Command of CI/CD and quality gates, non-functional quality (performance, security, accessibility), and API and contract testing
A consultative approach: credibility with client leaders, the ability to frame quality in business terms, and comfort handling disagreement and ambiguity
Daily, hands-on use of AI-assisted tools with examples of verifying their output, experience writing precise specs, working knowledge of evaluating AI-powered features, and awareness of how agentic systems fail

Qualifications

Experience: 8+ years in quality engineering or software delivery, with deep expertise in at least one area of modern software quality and working breadth across the rest.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
Technical skills: Expert, code-based test automation, including building frameworks from the ground up, with hands-on experience in CI/CD, cloud platforms, and API testing.
Consulting and leadership: Experience advising clients and senior stakeholders and coaching or mentoring engineers.
AI-assisted quality: Hands-on, daily use of AI-assisted tools and working knowledge of evaluating AI-powered features.

Work arrangement: Hybrid with days that may require in-person collaboration, including travel to client locations in the U.S. or Canada.

Slalom is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices.For this role, we are hiring at the following levels and targeted base pay salary ranges: The targeted base salary pay range for Architect is $133,000 to $163,000. In addition, individuals may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus . Actual compensation will depend upon an individual’s skills, experience, qualifications, location, and other relevant factors. The salary pay range is subject to change and may be modified at any time.
