Job summary

Met Council seeks a Policy Fellow to join our Policy and Advocacy team to support work at the forefront of AI and labor policy, examining how generative and agentic AI is reshaping work, wages, and economic security for low-income New Yorkers, while advancing Met Council's anti-poverty agenda.

This early-career role targets graduates with AI/tech policy interest, offering hands-on policy, research, and advocacy work across city, state, and federal levels with a capstone project on AI's impact on

Qualifications

• Master's degree or equivalent in public policy, law, or related field with focus on technology, labor, or economic justice.
• Recent graduates within ~2 years of degree encouraged to apply; other related fields considered.
• Demonstrated background or interest in technology and AI policy as it relates to workers and low-income communities required; familiarity with food/nutrition policy, affordable housing, or public benefits and social services a plus.
• Familiarity with AI and labor policy debates at city/state/federal level; knowledge of nutrition, benefits and housing policy; NYC/State processes strongly preferred.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel.
• Experience with data visualization and analytical tools (ArcGIS, Tableau, Stata, R) preferred.
• Experience with public presentations and oral testimony.
• Strong grant writing and reporting skills.

Responsibilities

• Examine AI and labor policy impact on low-wage workers and communities.
• Collaborate to develop a policy agenda on AI accountability and worker protections.
• Conduct analyses and identify advocacy opportunities in policy processes.
• Draft legislation, testimony, correspondence, talking points, coalition memos, policy briefs, and reports.
• Engage in advocacy at City Hall, the State Capitol, and Washington, D.C.
• Contribute to grant applications and reports.
• Support government relations and food network teams.
• Manage multiple workstreams and deadlines.
