Job summary

RELX, a global provider of information-based analytics, is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer Lead in Raleigh to design, build, and operate scalable AI/ML systems for legal research and analytics products. You will lead a 4-5 person ML team, influence platform-level decisions, and ensure enterprise-grade reliability and responsible AI practices.

You will mentor engineers, define best practices for ML deployment, and architect distributed systems serving multiple products with governance,

Qualifications

• 8–10 years of ML/Software Engineering experience.
• 2–3 years of people management experience.
• Master's or Bachelor's degree in computer science desirable.
• Strong software engineering with system design for large-scale data.
• Experience deploying ML models to production.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of 4-5 ML engineers.
• Provide architectural direction and code-level guidance.
• Establish engineering best practices for ML system design, testing, and deployment.
• Architect distributed ML systems serving multiple global products.
• Define enterprise-ready agentic frameworks.
• Lead decisions on deterministic workflows vs autonomous agents.
• Implement guardrails, safety layers, and traceability mechanisms.
• Develop evaluation frameworks to measure reasoning quality, hallucination rates, and reliability.
• Establish CI/CD standards for ML lifecycle management.
• Ensure compliance with data governance and responsible AI standards.
