Job summary

IBM Research in Yorktown Heights, NY, seeks an AI Native Systems Research Intern for 2027 to join a team exploring AI-native distributed systems, large language model deployment, and high-performance networking for future AI workloads.

You will design and build prototype systems, evaluate performance at scale, and publish results in leading scientific venues, working with world-class scientists and engineers to push the boundaries of AI, systems, and cloud technologies.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (MS/PhD), with a focus on artificial intelligence, systems, networking, or software development.
• Background in artificial intelligence and machine learning, including areas such as deep learning, LLMs, distributed LLM inference, or agentic patterns
• Strong background in software development, including proficiency in languages such as Python, Go, C++, or Rust
• Experience with containerization using Docker, Kubernetes, or other container orchestration tools.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize software platforms for building, deploying, and managing large language models (LLMs) and agents.
• Principles, methodologies, and frameworks for AI-native software development, evolution, and optimization.
• High-performance distributed inference for LLMs and AI workloads.
