Job summary

Telnyx is seeking a Software Engineer to build and operate the AI-native backend systems powering our go-to-market motions. You’ll design multi-agent architectures, integrate with complex business stacks, and own services end-to-end from prototype through production.

You’ll work with Python stacks (FastAPI/Flask) deployed on Kubernetes, handling real constraints like rate limits, budgets, and data quality while collaborating with Engineering Leads and Technical Product Managers to translate

Qualifications

• 2+ years of software engineering experience building backend services in Python.
• Production experience building multi-step AI agent systems with stateful workflows across multiple turns.
• Strong understanding of LLM internals affecting system design: context window, token budgets, cost/latency tradeoffs.
• Experience testing non-deterministic AI systems and handling refusals.
• Solid software architecture fundamentals: API design, state management, fault tolerance, graceful degradation.

Responsibilities

• Design and build multi-agent AI systems in Python for complex workflows.
• Architect model-agnostic abstraction layers across Claude, GPT, and open-source models.
• Build and operate backend services (FastAPI/Flask) on Kubernetes with CI/CD.
• Design tool-use patterns for AI agents and robust error handling with rate limits.
• Integrate with external systems (CRMs, enrichment APIs, Slack) with reliable data contracts.
• Instrument and monitor production AI systems with observability and alerting.
• Design and run experiments (A/B tests) with proper evaluation infrastructure.
