Job summary

Penn State University’s Institute for Computational and Data Sciences (ICDS) invites applicants for an AI/ML Data Science Engineer to join the RISE team on-site at University Park, PA. The role focuses on designing and implementing AI/ML/DL solutions, supporting researchers with scalable data workflows and scientific software.

Ideal candidates bring experience with Python, TensorFlow, GPUs, HPC, and large language / generative AI models, plus strong communication and documentation skills to work

Qualifications

• Linux-based computing, HPC, GPU-enabled environments, distributed or cluster-based systems, and AI infrastructure experience.
• Experience applying artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning, large language models, predictive analytics, or related methods, including application development in Python and experience with modern AI/ML frameworks such as TensorFlow.
• The successful candidate will develop, implement, test, troubleshoot, and optimize AI/ML solutions; automate analytical workflows; investigate complex computational issues; collaborate with researchers; and document clearly.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical expertise to university constituents in research, specification, design, development, and implementation of AI/ML/DL solutions.
• Apply machine learning, deep learning, AI, big data and software development to assist researchers in their projects and grants.
• Define scope and objectives, provide program design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation; advance researchers' goals with data solutions.
