MIT Lincoln Laboratory’s Advanced Concepts and Technologies Group (Group 39) seeks an Associate Staff to develop and apply AI, modeling, and data-analysis methods for technology development and assessment. Our team collaborates with government sponsors to understand problems, develop capabilities, and quantitatively evaluate emerging technologies and concepts.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a technical field or a bachelor’s with 2–3 years of relevant experience.
• Demonstrated programming ability in Julia, Python, or similar.
• Experience in AI/ML, including deep learning, LLMs, logic models, or reinforcement learning.
• Ability to formulate and solve complex, open‑ended technical problems and independently develop software or models.
• Applied statistics, experimental design, and quantitative methods experience.
• Experience analyzing complex, unstructured datasets and extracting insights.
• Strong written and oral technical communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to rapidly develop expertise in new areas.

Responsibilities

• Develop and apply AI, modeling, or analysis capabilities for technology development.
• Collaborate with sponsors and experts to translate questions into quantitative analyses and criteria.
• Develop and evaluate AI/ML methods using deep learning, LLMs, logic models, or related techniques.
• Create statistical, physics-based, and data‑driven models of systems and operations.
• Design and conduct quantitative studies, analyze datasets, quantify uncertainty, and interpret results.
• Develop software prototypes and contribute to architecture, testing, and documentation.
• Own focused technical tasks and work with teams to select approaches.
