Job summary

The AI Fluency and Computing Librarian position is part of the George Mason University Libraries' Science and Technology team, serving Computing Sciences, Public Health, and STEM institutes. The role plans and delivers AI literacy programs, provides research support, and collaborates with DDSS and Mason Publishing to advance data, AI, and open access initiatives.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library and information science program or certified foreign equivalent.
• Experience designing and implementing AI literacy programming for diverse audiences.
• Experience building outreach strategies and relations with faculty and students.
• Ability to collaborate across units and with diverse backgrounds.
• Knowledge of AI trends and their implications for literacy and libraries.
• Knowledge of electronic resources to support reference, research, and collection development.
• Ability to deliver library instruction and research support in STEM with inclusive pedagogy.

Responsibilities

• AI Fluency: coordinate AI educational programming and serve as primary AI inquiries contact.
• Reference and Research: provide expert reference, research assistance, and course support.
• Instruction: develop and deliver high‑quality instruction to computing sciences.
• Collection Development: select and manage reference and research collections with a librarian partner.
• Scholarly Communication, Outreach, and Engagement: promote open access and scholarly communication.
• Service and Scholarship: engage in university service and professional activities.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

Master’s degree in library and information science (ALA-accredited)
