Job summary

Mortenson Construction is seeking an AI intern to join our i4 department and help advance AI-driven solutions within a leading construction environment. You will work with project teams to prototype AI agents, test workflows, and apply emerging technologies.

This paid summer internship (May–August 2027) offers hands-on experience, collaboration with data solutions, and the chance to influence real projects while developing your career in tech within the construction industry.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a 4-year undergrad in Information Technology, MIS, CS or related field.
• Preferred: prior internship experience.
• Preferred: current undergraduate junior.
• Demonstrated collaboration, communication, problem-solving, initiative, and leadership.
• Detail-oriented and organized with ability to manage competing priorities.

Responsibilities

• Assist in building and testing AI agents and custom AI systems.
• Contribute to prompt engineering agent workflows and user feedback loops.
• Prepare data sets for training and evaluation, while experimenting with pre-trained models for NLP, computer vision, and generative AI.
• Document learning and contribute to internal knowledge sharing.
• Collaborate with teams across diverse backgrounds and organizational levels.
• All other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

Mortenson's i4 department seeks an AI intern to join our team to help further the goals of the organization. This role will support the development of AI agents and tools that improve how we work - from smarter communication, automation within construction solutions, and predictive insights. The AI Intern will collaborate with the AI team and Data Solutions to prototype solutions, explore emerging technologies, and contribute to real-world applications of Artificial Intelligence.

• Assist in building and testing AI agents and custom AI systems

• Document learning and contribute to internal knowledge sharing
• Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels

Required Qualifications

• Currently pursuing an undergraduate, four-year degree in Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or other related degree

Preferred Qualifications

• Have previous related internship experience
• Are currently enrolled as an undergraduate junior
• Have a basic understanding of construction and generally accepted business practices
• Demonstrate strong collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills and show initiative and leadership
• Showcase a positive and professional attitude and solid customer service skills
• Are detail-oriented, organized, and can effectively handle multiple competing priorities

The hourly wage for college Interns starts at $18. Students may be paid higher wages based on their year in school.
