Job summary

Cengage Group is seeking a Software Engineer to deliver a world-class learning experience on the CLP. You will join a cross-functional team and contribute to an AI-first roadmap, building scalable backend services with Java/Spring and rich frontend interfaces with React.

You will collaborate with product, UX, and QA to ship accessible, high-quality features across higher education platforms, while continuously improving performance and reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 2–5+ years of professional software engineering experience in full-stack development.
• Experience with Java (Spring) and modern JavaScript (ReactJS).
• Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP) and containerization.

Responsibilities

• Deliver world-class learning experiences on the Cengage Learning Platform (CLP).
• Design, develop, and maintain end-to-end features across backend (Java/Spring) and frontend (React).
• Build dynamic, responsive, and accessible user interfaces using React.
• Develop scalable backend services and RESTful APIs to support frontend functionality.
• Collaborate with Product, UX, QA, and other engineers to deliver cohesive, user-centered solutions.
• Write clean, maintainable, and testable code with modern frontend patterns and scalable backend practices.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues across the stack, including UI bugs and performance bottlenecks.
• Contribute to platform modernization efforts, including frontend architecture evolution and backend service improvements.
