Job description

Who we are looking for

As part of State Street’s Enterprise Architecture organization, the Assistant Vice President, AI Governance Engineering reports directly to the Vice President of AI Governance Engineering. As an AI Solution Software Engineer, you will bridge the gap between advanced AI research and production-ready software. You will design, develop, and deploy AI-driven solutions that optimize technology governance reviews, assess the risk of solution designs being deployed in production, and ensure risk based decisions are appropriately auditable. This role requires a candidate who possesses strong software engineering fundamentals and a deep academic or practical foundation in Machine Learning (ML), Natural Language Processing (NLP), or Large Language Models (LLMs).

What you will be responsible for
  • Software Development: Write clean, scalable, and maintainable code to integrate AI/ML models into workflow automation that assist State Street application development teams in describing the architecture of their solutions and helping reviewers assess application design quality and risk.
  • AI Solution Engineering: Collaborate with our AI engineering center of excellence in leveraging our enterprise AI frameworks, including MCP and RAG enterprise solutions, to deliver and maintain working AI-driven workflows.
  • Workflow Integration Design: Integrate our non-deterministic AI solution capabilities with our Appian-based deterministic workflow orchestration system and implement effective application design guardrails.
  • Testing & Optimization: Conduct rigorous testing, performance tuning, and optimization of AI models for speed, accuracy, and cost-efficiency.
  • Collaboration & Innovation: Partner with product managers and engineering teams across State Street to understand business needs and propose innovative AI solutions.
What we value
  • Proficiency in Java and Python.
  • Understanding of core AI architecture capabilities such as RAG and MCP.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work cross functionally to achieve consensus and common goals/objectives when individual business objectives may be in conflict.
  • Ability to make clear and logical architectural recommendations.
  • Ability to use data to make decisions.
  • Collaborative partner able to influence and drive accountability across the organization.
  • Outcome oriented and focused business and regulatory commitments.
Education & Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree (M.S.) in Computer Science (or a closely related technical field) with a focus on building AI-driven solutions.
  • 3-5 years + of AI development experience.
  • Programming Languages Proficiency in Java and Python.
  • SDLC: Proficiency with modern coding practices and SDLC tools for software release.
  • AI/ML Frameworks: Hands-on experience with frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Jext.
  • Modern AI Tech Stack: Exposure to LLMs, prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and vector databases (e.g., Pinecone, Chroma, Milvus).
  • Software Engineering: Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, object-oriented programming (OOP), and software design patterns.
  • Cloud & DevOps: Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Data Systems: Experience writing complex SQL queries and working with relational or NoSQL databases.
