Job summary

SAP SE in Naperville is seeking an AI Engineer Intern to explore, prototype, and implement AI-driven solutions that improve customer outcomes. You will work with engineers and product stakeholders to build features, run experiments, and document learnings.

The role emphasizes adaptability, curiosity, and practical problem-solving, with 12 months duration and 20–40 hours per week. Internship is paid and case studies will be used for learning.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's in CS, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field.
• Must be currently enrolled or recently graduated within 6 months of graduation date.
• Programming: Python; JavaScript/TypeScript and frontend knowledge a plus.
• AI & ML: experience with open-source ML/LLM frameworks (PyTorch, Hugging Face, LangChain, LlamaIndex).
• Data: basic SQL, notebooks, evaluation metrics a plus.
• Strong problem-solving, clear communication and teamwork; willingness to learn from feedback.
• Experience with REST APIs and simple backend services (FastAPI) and version control (Git).
• Experience building full-stack solutions including UX (React).
• Cloud: SAP BTP, Azure, GCP, AWS; containers (Docker), CI basics.
• Familiarity with retrieval-augmented generation (RAG): embeddings, vector stores, prompting.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing and validating AI use cases that improve operational effectiveness.
• Participate in the lifecycle of AI projects from ideation and prototyping to pilot deployment under guidance.
• Support integration of AI capabilities into existing tools and services (APIs, microservices).
• Research emerging AI trends (LLMs, retrieval, evaluation) and summarize applicability to SAP scenarios.
• Create and maintain clear technical documentation, experiment reports, and implementation guides.
