Job summary

American Express is offering a 10-week AI Engineer Intern internship within Enterprise Technology Services in the United States. You will build software, collaborate with Agile teams, and learn how enterprise AI solutions are designed, tested, and delivered in a global environment.

You’ll gain hands-on experience with AI/ML models, data pipelines, and cloud-based workflows under guidance, across machine learning, generative AI, AI agents, and AI-enabled features.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a full-time bachelor’s degree program.
• Bachelor’s degree candidates with an expected graduation date between Dec 2027 and Jun 2028.
• Knowledge of Python and foundational data processing technologies.
• Foundational understanding of computer science concepts including data structures and debugging.
• Understanding of machine learning concepts such as model training and evaluation.
• Experience using modern AI systems such as LLM APIs and prompt-based interactions.
• Awareness of responsible AI, security, governance, compliance, and reliability considerations.
• Strong communication, collaboration, documentation, and learning agility.

Responsibilities

• Support the development and integration of AI/ML models or intelligent services into production-like systems under guidance.
• Assist with data collection, preprocessing, transformation, and management for model training and evaluation.
• Contribute to testing, debugging, and improving AI-enabled solutions for performance and reliability.
• Support AI capabilities such as training workflows, inference endpoints, prompts, and data pipelines.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, data, risk, security, and business partners to implement AI-driven solutions.
• Document model parameters, prompts, evaluation assumptions, data pipelines, and system integrations to support reproducibility.
• Participate in Agile development practices including sprint planning, stand-ups, demos, retrospectives, and code reviews.
• Assist in ensuring AI systems align with enterprise reliability, safety, governance, and compliance.
• Build foundational confidence across AI-adjacent areas like APIs, cloud environments, CI/CD, containers, and monitoring.
